Steelers Notebook: Polamalu, Holmes aiming to test legs
Wednesday, November 28, 2007
By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Strong safety Troy Polamalu and split end Santonio Holmes will run today, and Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said he is "cautiously optimistic" about their chances to play Sunday night against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Polamalu missed Monday night's game with a sprained knee and Holmes was out with a high ankle sprain.

Left tackle Marvel Smith, a late scratch Monday because his back flared up, is a "possibility" to play against the Bengals, Tomlin said.

Although Tomlin called his team "relatively healthy," there were other injuries resulting from a 3-0 victory Monday night against Miami.

Tackle Willie Colon and linebacker James Farrior developed slight swelling in their knees, although Tomlin does not believe it will prevent either from playing Sunday.

Fullback Dan Kreider has a hyperextended knee that will bear watching this week.
Defensive end Aaron Smith also experienced discomfort in his previously sprained knee that should not keep him out.

if we had depth i would rather have smith sit out this sunday but nick eason doesnt cut it in my book. same with Holmes, i dont see a threat on our team like him, maybe if parker could catch.

I wouldn't mind seeing Tyrone Carter back there for one more game...he's solid. I definitely want to see Holmes active though.

I have a strong feeling Troy and Holmes will be back, but Smith is looking like another week out and i can't really say i would want anyone out over someone because there all great playmakers we will need against this Cincy team so get better soon guys and hope to see you play we will need you!
Go Steelers!

i think smith was out the last time we faced each other and watson ran surprisingly well against us. i dont want to see anything like that again.

ugh... again very nervous..... i think cinci has righted their ship because of that tennesse game... i think they definitely have a chance against us if our o-line lets big ben get throttled back their and if our o-line doesn't open up holes...

We need holme and polamolu this week along with smith but if they ain't healty enough then let them heal and be ready for the patriots.

While you hate to be without any starters (there is a reason they start!) I feel like we can make due at some positions.

I realize that we want everyone healthy for the Patriot's game, but in reality, a win this week is more important than in Foxboro.

Holmes will be a big loss, but we can't push our future star receiver. 19ward86, I'm not sure so much that Willie can't catch as much as it just isn't in our offensive gameplan. I really am surprised we don't see him in the flats more as a check down with our Offensive Line being so suspect.

The Bengals have a slew of talent at WR, but I feel like Carter can handle the load if it comes to that. (Yes, I just gave T.C. my stamp of approval )

Aaron Smith will be crucial in run defense since we need to establish a presence against their ground game to force them into throwing the ball. We have a lot of young talent in the secondary and games like this will build character.

As far as their injuries go, Housh definitely will play, as he's been sitting out Wednesday's for a while.

If Anderson is a scratch that will be huge as it may be an equalizer for Smith not playing. I believe they would line up on each other.
