VT over BC no surprise. That kid from UCF, Kevin Smith, is a stud. He surpassed
Marcus Allen's record for most carries, and will break Barry Sanders single season record in their bowl game. He's impressive.

Obviously the big games are being played now and later. Who would have thought at the beginning of the year that the most important games of the year would be WVU vs Pitt and OU vs. Missouri?

i am rooting for missouri.

at least BC sort of made it game for awhile. i was expecting VT to blow them out by some huge score.

i will be happy as long as OSU doesnt get a shot at the BCS title... sorry rev:wink02:

Um, so I'm watching the supposed "best team in the country", USC, play UCLA, and I'm wondering exactly how is this team going to beat OSU in the Rose Bowl? Yeah, the PAC 10 has (and always has had) the homefield advantage in the match-up, but what else ya got? This USC team looks very beatable, and they are also lacking the arrow that can cleave OSU's Archilles' heal: If you can't spread the field and run with your QB, you can't beat OSU.

And this is a UCLA team that lost to ND. USC should be winning about 60-3 now.

There is a silver lining to the cloud if Missouri and WVU win and play for the nc game. It will be nice to see the Bucks beat up the Trojans. USC was overrated before they lost to one of the worst teams in D-1 football, and they are overrated still.

It's fine if the Bucks don't get the shot. They are perennial contenders now, and they'll get plenty more shots under Tressel. WVU and Missouri both are probably looking at once in a generation scenarios here. But if one or both of them choke, OSU deserves their shot. All Missouri and WVU have to do is win the biggest games their programs have ever played in.

hard to lose something you didnt have in the first place. the report that came out was premature. Michigan just ask to talk to Miles and LSU said they could after the game tonight. You know he wasnt going to come out and say before the SEC championship game yeah I am going to U of M...lol...i think he will at least listen to what Michigan has to say....

7 points off the board, and make no mistake, that was a Big East homer official call. The Big East DESPERATELY wants a shot at the title game. If that was holding, then I'm playing QB for the Mountaineers. Awful call.

In fact, I think the Big 12 is on board as well. At halftime, the Sooners, behind 2 AWFUL interference calls are losing the battle of the officials 79 yards to 10.

Let 'em play, guys!

It may not matter. Good teams overcome adversity from the refs, and I expect Oklahoma will play through the adversity.

The hate in the press is palpable, but, really, who else was there (speaking of the Bucks)? Kansas? They played one good team and they lost. Hawaii? They played nobody at all. Everybody else had 2 losses. And anybody complaining about LSU, look no farther than the extra love the SEC gets in the media.

Yes, OSU's schedule was light this year. Yes they didn't have their traditional big ooc challenge early on. But they did beat a good PSU in Happy Valley, and they did beat a very good Wisconsin, and they did beat their rival on the road, and the one loss they took was to a surging Illinois team that will not be the cakewalk that the USC fans think they are.

This is best. OSU will get redemption January 8th by beating an SEC team in SEC country, and winning convincingly.

No way Ohio State has equal or more fans than LSU in the Superdome. That place will be a hornets nest for the Buckeyes - like it was for Oklahoma in 2004. I do think that the Bucks will have their fair share of fans, however. Being 0-8 all time against the SEC in bowl games is another psychological element that could work against OSU as well.

What OSU does have working in their favor is that this game matches Jim Tressel against Les Miles. If OSU wins this game, the coaching matchup will be the primary reason.

I never said that. I was worried about Florida's speedy DE's.

Here's the thing (and I've said this before, too). Look at who has beaten OSU in the last 40 games they've played. The teams shared one thing in common, in that they had an athletic QB who could run. The teams spread the field and ran the ball, often putting the ball in the QB's hands. Mike Robinson (PSU), Vince Young (Texas) Tim Tebow (Florida) and Juice Williams (Illinois). Matt Flynn is a pure pocket passer. He averages 2.4 yards a carry, and most of his rushed are either QB sneaks or scrambles out a collapsed pocket. He lacks what it takes to exploit the one weakness the Bucks defense has.

Amen. And anyone who thinks that this game is a home game for LSU is in for a suprise. I'll say that the fans will close to equally split if not leaning toward the OSU fanbase.
This is a far cry from being an away game for LSU. I say the crowd will be 70-30 LSU's way.
I know it's not Baton Rouge, but damn, it is New Orleans.

There will be at least 60,000 Buckeye fans in New Orleans, and at least half will find a way into the game. I'm not sure there is another fanbase in college football that travels like the Buckeyes do. Football in Ohio is like a religion.

Alabama's fan base can hang with OSU's. Bama took 40,000 fans to Pasadena for a regular season game against UCLA in 2000. We also put 93,000 fans inside Bryant-Denny Stadium for a silly spring game and had to turn away another 15,000. Football is definitely the top-ranking religion in the state of Alabama. Football is all we have down here!

I hope OSU takes the fight to LSU, but it's going to be tough in that particular venue called the Louisiana Superdome. The other concern that I have for OSU is the long-as-hell layoff. It seems like it was forever ago that Ohio State played Michigan. How will Ohio State not be rusty when they kick it off against LSU? A two-month layoff is just ridiculous. OSU needs to get the Michigan game moved to the last Saturday in November.

Nebraska has the best traveling fan base in college football, so stop with the pissing match already.

Nebraska?

Sure it's not Army? Jesus, OSU has more alum then the entire population of the state of Nebraska (That's a joke, happy, not one of your 'facts"). Jesus, where do you GET this shit from?

The Bucks sent 10's of thousands to Texas (regular season) a couple years ago. They rented out the UT basketball arena and had a pep ralley, and there wasn't an empty seat in the house. They are awful strong when it comes to sending fans on the road. It's commented on reguarly on all the network pregame shows.

Nebraska isn't even over the top 10 in my book.

Top Fan Travelers are along the lines of Notre Dame, Penn State, and OSU. Notre Dame sent probably about 10,000 to the PSU/ND game this year. Penn State had a great turnout each of their games on the road.

Alabama and Tennessee should be on your list as well.

I hope this goes through, it can only help the Big Ten. I've long since thought that there was too long of a layoff between the end of the Big Ten season and the bowl games, putting teams like OSU at a severe disadvantage. I'm afraid the long break will hurt them again this year against LSU.

Now if they will agree to have a conference championship game, they'll be set.

They're 4 and 5. Although I don't know enough about the SEC.

Here's how we fix the Big Ten. Indiana? Out. They join the MAC. The MAC is a nice little conference and the Hoosiers move from doormat to perennial conference power in one pen stroke. Northwest? Out. They slide to the Ivy League. They have the academics to do it, too. If not, maybe C-USA. They need out, regardless.

That'd put the B10 at 9, so we add............................................... .Notre Dame! It's a perfect fit. They'd have to scratch that NBC deal, but it would put 4 of the most storied college football programs in the country under one banner.

Forget the conference championship, too. If the Pac-10 and the Big 10 stay at 10, why? They are the two conferences who started the whole bowl game thing in the first place, so let tradition reign supreme.

Notre Dame won't budge and it would take a lot to get rid of Indiana because of their basketball tradition and Northwestern has been a good football school and have been showing signs of getting better.

As for the 12th team, go for Pitt, WVU or Rutgers.

I'm again just pontificating over here. Nothing is going to change. The Big Ten would never let any of those Big East teams in, and they are kind of East Coast anyway.

But this Big Ten Channel deal makes me wonder. If they DID let a 12th team in, there is only one team they would ever consider, and it IS ND. The extra TV revenue from the B10 channel could sway them. And the program is vulnerable right now. You could have:

Big Ten East:
OSU
Michigan
Notre Dame
Indiana
Purdue
PSU

Big Ten West:
Illinois
Iowa
Northwestern
Michigan State
Minnesota
Wisconsin

Have a primary crossover opponent and 2 other teams on their schedule each year. Sort of like the ACC Rule and you could still have the bye week.

The Big Ten East would pull SOOOO much more cash.

I like it, though.

Yeah, Wisconsin is the only real team with any perennial juice in the West. The conference would probably scooch Michigan West and send Northwestern East for balance. But it'll NEVER happen anyway.
