They just said on the post game show www.fox970.com that Max has a sprained knee. Tomlin said that "we'll know more tomorrow". Either way, it looks like Essex is the starter for next game against Jax.

Poor Ben.

Look at it this way, Essex was blocking against Suggs today and did a decent job.

We need to see what Essex can do and he probably is playing for a roster spot next year as well. Maybe he'll surprise us. I can hope...can't I >)

This team is SOOOO banged up. :banging: I hope Garrard's inexperience in his first playoff start bites Jax in the ass next week.

Funny........I didn't see Charlie running for his life tonight quite as much as Ben does.

No - but you saw an intentional grounding call - Charlie simply threw away balls Ben would hold on to.

The hits just keep on coming

Man, what it is with Pittsburgh sports and leg injuries this year?

PITT forward Mike Cook, PITT point guard Levance Fields, Pittsburgh Penguin Gary Roberts, Pittsburgh Penguin Ryan Malone (had a leg infection), Willie Parker and now Max Starks.....when will it end?

Truthfully, do u feel good with TRAI FREAKIN ESSEX protecting the blind side of our franchise QB? Truthfully?

When we were finaly getting decent play at LT, we just get it up the bum with this one.

I think Atlanta Dan asked this before, and I'm asking again now - any chance of Faneca getting moved over to LT?

starks shouldn't have been playing in the first place. i can understand simmons and mahan, but not starks. the team is already thin at LT.

I'm not one who believes in curses (Madden/SI cover), but it's one helluva coincidence that's for sure.

We almost added Holmes to that list today.

I gotta think Faneca moving to LT and #68 taking left guard has to be under consideration. You hate to shake up the line that drastically at this point, but its better than our 3rd string LT Essex.

Worth considering at least I think.

My gut was twisting watching him limp off that field. I had just got done saying not minutes before that I wished that they would sit him the rest of the game.

This is what I was thinking. Either that or try Kemoeatu at tackle. I don't know. We're really in bad shape on the o-line.

I couldn't agree with you more. Stark's injury is huge at this point.

Hell - they played Davenport and if he went down that left Russell at RB

Just a snake bitten second half of the year

Kemo played really good at guard when he came in

How bout Faneca at LT and Kemo at guard?

I think Faneca has been attempting to cover for Mahan's problems = pick your poison of Ben getting smacked from his blind side or up the middle pressure = shift Faneca and IMO Najah also will be less effective

Steelers' Starks injures knee
By Scott Brown
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Monday, December 31, 2007

A handful of Steelers players were injured in the team's 27-21 loss Sunday to the Baltimore Ravens, the most worrisome of which is the knee sprain left tackle Max Starks sustained in the first half. Starks didn't return after hurting his left knee, and the Steelers already are thin at left tackle with regular starter Marvel Smith out with a back injury.
"Hopefully, he's going to be OK," Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said of Starks.

Bryant McFadden is another player the Steelers will monitor closely. He re-injured the ankle he had badly sprained earlier this season, Tomlin said. Pro Bowl linebacker James Harrison left the game with a shoulder contusion, but he later returned and is expected to be fine for Saturday's wild-card game against Jacksonville. Wide receiver Willie Reid sprained his shoulder, and James Farrior sustained a "stinger," Tomlin said.

? The Steelers opted to sit several key starters, including quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, for their regular-season finale since they had already clinched the AFC North title. Roethlisberger sprained his ankle in the Steelers' 41-24 win Dec. 20 over the St. Louis Rams. The Steelers also held out strong safety Troy Polamalu, who has been dealing with inflammation in the knee he sprained earlier this season, and wide receiver Hines Ward.

? Other Steelers players that were inactive included Smith, return specialist Allen Rossum (hamstring), linebackers Clint Kriewaldt (neck) and Andre Frazier (groin) and guard/center Darnell Stapleton.
? Linebacker Ray Lewis (back) didn't play for the banged-up Ravens. Also missing the game because of injuries were quarterback Kyle Boller (head), running backs Willis McGahee (chest) and Mike Anderson (thigh), tight ends Daniel Wilcox (thigh) and Quinn Sypniewski (head) and wide receiver Demetrius Williams (ankle). Defensive tackle Amos Gordon was the only Ravens player on the inactive list that wasn't hurt.

This is not the time to be having injuries we need everybody healthy for the playoffs.

I think that it's about time to swipe a tackle or two from someones practice squad.

Man, imagine this, Steelers fans are worried to death about the injury to "Max Starks". Most of us were calling for his head last season????? Gee whiz, the injury bug has depleted the Steelers roster.

I'm going to NFL.com to see if there are any decent free agent offensive tackles. :cheer:

Whatever happened to that massive undrafted rookie free agent that everyone was mad about that we cut? Not saying he is an option or a solution, but was just wondering.

The vibe from the Trib-Review & P-G is that Starks will play - of course the way this season has been going Tomlin will probably announce at today's media conference that Starks is gone for the year.

Roster changes
The Steelers signed two offensive tackles to their 53-man roster to replace tackle Max Starks and special teams captain Clint Kriewaldt, who were placed on injured reserve.

One of them believes he has more playoff experience than anyone else in the Steelers' locker room.

Jason Capizzi (6-9, 324), an undrafted rookie from Pine Richland High School and IUP, was signed off the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad. He spent training camp at Latrobe with the Steelers but was released Sept. 2.

"It's my hometown team in a home playoff game," said Capizzi, who began at Pitt and transferred to IUP. "I've been to more home playoff games than most everyone in here."

That's because his dad, Pete Capizzi, has been a Steelers season ticket holder since 1970 and brought Jason with him to games for years.

Capizzi becomes the No. 3 tackle and can play both sides. He spent time on the practice squads of the Buccaneers and Jets before spending nearly two months with Kansas City. He resisted the Chiefs' efforts to keep him when the Steelers came knocking.

"K.C. wanted me for the offseason, yeah," Capizzi said. "But, I got an unbelievable opportunity to come here. I hope they can understand that."

Jeremy Parquet (6-6, 321) was signed from the Steelers' practice squad. He was Kansas City's seventh-round draft pick in 2005 and spent some time on the St. Louis Rams' active roster.

Capizzi will wear No. 69, Parquet No. 65.
