ALRIGHT! Bloom is a good player, if he can stay healthy and makes it to camp he will beat out Reid next year, no doubt in my mind

What a coincidence....Willie Reid looks terrible and we bring in a return specialist.

Bloom had some decent returns this preseason. He is intruiging.

at least he has heart and a good work ethic. Reid has not shown me one thing this year. nothing, nil, zero. There has got to be a better return man somewhere. I certainly don't think Bloom will be a Josh Cribbs or a Hester but he could atleast improve our below average special teams. Effort is half the battle in special teams and i guarantee Bloom will put forth the effort. Is that enough. I don't know, but worth a gamble.

I give Rossum a C+ grade, the plus only because he hasn't turned the ball over much. But he is better than anyone we have had since Randle El left so I cant really say it was too bad of a pick up for a 6th rounder. We do need improvement though.

The alternative was Reid or Wilson who have both had fumbling problems as returners so standing by that statement seems pretty stupid...

Wilson for one has never had a fumbling issue at returns. We just do not use him there because he is a starting WR.
His complete time as a full time returner with the 49ers he only had 1 fumble. With us he has had 3 fumbles in 3 years as a WR. So in 7 years he has only had 4 fumbles, I would say his stats look in his favor.
And as a Return guy I would of rather had him in there then Reid. Reid will be gone.

Far as Bloom goes, Eagles fans have been very disappointed with this guy. And if were going to keep bringing in retards like bloom and mahan, I see us having problems in the future. We already look ruff.

wilson has 0 fumbles in his career at returns

rossum has 3 fumbles this year

i'd think a " sports writer" (snicker) would make it a priority to get his facts strait ..perhaps ,you should look into writing for PFT.....:WHERE FACTS AND CREDIBILITY AREN'T IMPORTANT....coffee:

It wouldn't hurt to at least try him out .. I'm excited to see some more guys in there working for the job.

Ced.. Our number 3 receiver... number 2 if anything happens to Ward or Santo.

In Arians offense... we need at least 3 to go.

As a result, I don't want to see Ced. fielding punts.

Rossum was a very good pickup. I trust him back there. He has been knowledgeable on the rules... making for some scary scenes to fans who didn't know what he was doing... but he knew and was right.

Granted, he is a short term fix. But for a 6th round draft pick.. hey, excellent pickup.

I respectfully disagree. After witnessing our return men of 06 fumbling at least one game away, I was happy with the Rossum signing.

Other than Rossum's 1 kickoff return for a touchdown, I feel comfortable that he'll make the right decision on whether to field the ball or let it bounce away. I'm very comfortable in the fact that Rossum doesn't fumble returns.

You mentioned that Rossum has fumbled 3 times, I believe that fact to be misleading. How many of those fumbles were truly turnovers? I can only think of 1 Rossum fumble that resulted in a turnover. Now that's just speculation and you're welcome to correct me if I'm wrong.

I realize that Rossum doesn't get the big return yards but heck, I've grown accustomed to the Steelers weak return game. I've been a fan since 1975 and I can recall only 2 great return men playing for the Steelers, Rod Woodson and Antwaan Randle-El.

We absolutely have to pick up some special teams players. It was so bad, that we had starters volunteer to do the job.

Can't have our pro bowl LB and Najeh (although I thought Najeh did a great job) at risk doing the job next year. Special teams and OLine have to addressed in the off season. Nobody is more aware of this than Tomlin......can we just pick uo the right guys?

Facts:
Coach empasized Special Teams (ST) in the draft and in Training Camp. ST has been a disaster all year and that includes the drafted punter that lost one in OT). ST all year has lost way more games than they have won. Draw your own conclusions about that effort. (How about pitiful for the yr. )

Team has gotten worse rather than better as the year progressed. Just review there record to see for yourself.

Too me only Woodley and Gay look like exciting players from his first draft.

The team has not excited me all year. Maybe they will do better in the playoffs. The Offensive line if they give Ben time instead of sacks and hurries I say they do have a very legitimate shot.

In time the number of ProBowl Players that Tomlin can develop and replace will determine how long he stays as the coach. That will be the ultimate measuring stick that will increase and maintain the wins. He sure has aways to go to match Noll and Cowher.
Thank God we have Ben. He is the Real Deal IMO. He will keep us from visiting the division cellar in the next 8 to 10 yrs.
Best to all in 2008.

I believe this is a false report....KFFL has nothing on their site that says that we signed Bloom...and he isnt on the Steelers site practice roster.

Jeremy Bloom-WR- Steelers Jan. 1 - 5:46 pm et

Steelers signed WR Jeremy Bloom to their practice squad.

Bloom could be activated for the playoffs if Allen Rossum (questionable, hamstring) can't play. The former Olympic skier and Eagles draftee was out of football all season, but did have a tryout with the Bucs last September.
