Steelers replace injured Starks, Kriewaldt on roster
Wednesday, January 02, 2008
By Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The Steelers have placed tackle Max Starks and linebacker Clint Kriewaldt on the season-ending injured reserve list and signed former Pitt and IUP tackle Jason Capizzi to their 53-man roster.

Also, the Steelers promoted offensive lineman Jeremy Parquet from their practice squad to the active roster for Saturday's wild-card playoff game against the Jacknsoville Jaguars.

To replace Parquet, the Steelers signed wide receiver Jeremy Bloom to the practice squad. Bloom, a fifth-round draft choice of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2006, is a former Olympic skier and fashion model.

Starks has a knee injury, Kriewaldt a neck injury.

Starks played in all 16 games this year for the Steelers, starting four in place of injured left tackle Marvel Smith. He started at left tackle the final two games of the season and was injured early in the game against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 17.

Kriewaldt played in 14 games this season for the Steelers, primarily on special teams. He had seven tackles, six on special teams, before injuring his neck against Jacksonville in Week 15.

Capizzi (6-9, 315) originally signed with the Steelers as an undrafted rookie free agent out of IUP earlier this year before spending time on the practice squad with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New York Jets and, most recently, the Kansas City Chiefs.

Parquet (6-6, 321) was originally drafted out of Southern Mississippi in the seventh round by the Chiefs in 2005 and spent time on the St. Louis Rams active roster and practice squad the past two years.

I'm sorry, but I had to laugh at the thought of the Steelers signing a Fashion Model to their roster for help. I would be embarassed if I were Jeremy if someone put that in my Bio.

You have to like an IUP guy getting another chance.

I'm surprised the line hasn't gone up yet with all of these injuries for the Steelers. I already know Jax is the favorite.

No matter how you want to look at it, this is a necessary move with the injuries to our starters continuing to mount. Welcome back Jason! :tt02:

capizzi used to be a tight end but was too big, i thought he was going to make the roster at the beginning of the year. i think he can be a solid backup in the future.

So the Browns never did sign Capizzi.
