I've been turning this over in my head all day long. Why do the Jags consistently own our Steelers teams? Going all the way back to their first game in the NFL, the Jags have simply always had our number. Greg Lloyd's knee, that runback where Cowher almost tackled the guy off the bench, the decline of Maddox, losing our last 3 against them... we have a history of failure vs these guys.

I would like to hear your thoughts. Why do often superior Steelers teams always seem to struggle with the Jagoffs? I cant figure it out. :banging:

I wouldn't say that its a history of failure against them, just that when they entered the league we were the measuring sticks for teams.

The jaguars have, as far as I can remember, commented about being a Steelers-like team. Smash mouth, hard nosed, old school football. That's what they wanted to be as an organization.

When they play us, they step up to the plate. IMHO, the jaguars have quietly put together a very formidable team over the last 5-6 years. Think if they were to play in the AFC West, what type of dominance they would have had over the last several years.

The Jags have been able to take advantage of sub-par (to 70s Steelers) Steelers teams. They have always had good coaching and good OL and DL. The new Jags were a new organization but they have many good veteran players.
We have beaten them 8 out of 12 times. I know it's nothing to be proud of. In 2004, we faced a very tough Jags team and J'ville, and we beat them. It was one of the hardest hitting games I had seen. We need to have OL and DL like the one we had in 2004. Of course, they fell apart in the playoffs. :banging:

One reason is Mathis.

There's an old saying, if you can't beat them then go and sign their guy that kills you everytime.

We need help and depth at CB, let's get Mathis on our team!!

Why do we own the Browns? I suppose it must be fate or something. I remember back in the day when the Jags were in our division. I used to hate playing them beause Brunell always seemed to burn our D - LOL! They always played us tough.

that jags own us because the more physical team wins... it seems to me we play physical against every team except the jags... its almost like we fear them a little bit... not a lot but just enough that u hesitate to make that tackle because or you drop a ball because ur gonna get knocked...

Must be that Southern Mojo.

For whatever reason, Jacksonville holds the Steelers in such high respect that they want to be like them. Even to this day. So they build their team in the mold like the Steelers, instill a tough-guy mentality, and bingo, Steelers South. Too bad they can't drum up the fanbase in Jacksonville as big as the Steelers.

Yeah, they have our number. Then again, so did the Browns once upon a time. Someday the Steelers will beat them and the the tide will turn. Until then, we'll just have to wait until next year.

You've missed a few games between the 2 teams. We've beaten them 8 times, that's correct but they beat us 12 times.

Mathis knows the play the Steelers ran..and picked it off to the house again!! why did they run that same bunch play and through to the opposite side. I bet Mathis is just shaking his head in laughter after they ran that play AGAIN!!

Jacksonville does not own us.

New England owns us.

The reason why I make this argument is because New England has beaten us pretty easily in 3 out of the last 6 times we have played them and Brady can beat our defense in his sleep. Besides, NE has beaten us in 5 out of 6 games...3 of them in our own house and 2 of them in Championship Games.

Against Jacksonville, we won three in a row from 2001 through 2004.

After that...

We returned that kickoff in the 2005 game to the 28 yard line, we should have just sent the Bus in there gotten an additional 5-8 yards and then kicked the game winning field goal in overtime. We should have won that game. Maddox and the playcalling in overtime cost us that game.

That would have made it 4 wins in a row against them.

We also should have won the game this past weekend. I'm not going to blame one particular thing that hasn't been already been mentioned...but anyone who watched that game knows we should have won that game.

Agreed, losses to the Patriots are usually bad we didn't show up and got smashed losses.

Losses to the jags are usually, "wtf just happened" losses.

Mathis was born and raised in Jacksonville...can't see him going anywhere any time soon!!
