ESPN's Dick Vitale (http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/tag/DickVitale/), who had surgery to repair his vocal chords (http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2007/12/18/vitale-out-of-commission-until-february/), plans to return to broadcasting games with the February 6th showdown between Duke and North Carolina (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3194896)

A scope and analysis of Vitale's throat by Dr. Steven Zeitels in Boston revealed that the broadcaster has recovered sufficiently after the removal of the non-cancerous lesions.

"I was in tears when he asked me to speak my first words since the surgery," Vitale wrote in a letter to fans. "Believe me, it was very difficult to go 3? weeks without speaking! When he had me count to 10, I was so relieved."

No, it's not. The man is a living gimmick, he has no substance. Dick Vitale has done more damage to the profession of sports broadcasting than anyone else in history and I hope he retires very soon and is never heard from again.

If the American Dream is becoming a target of hatred and mockery....then he is doing just that.

No....he brings kissing Duke's ass to the headset. He's the lowest form of announcer, a guy who has to have a gimmick. Can you imagine Jim Nance acting like Duke Vitale? The only guy in big time sports who does the same thing is Darrell Waltrip. You like that comparison?

It doesn't matter, ESPN will keep him on the air because they don't give a damn anymore.

Walltrip hasn't even been in the business nearly as long as Vitale.

Nantz already has a kissup attitude to the Patriots anytime he covers one of their games.
