Chargers' Rivers questionable for title game with knee injury

SAN DIEGO -- Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers has a sprained ligament in his right knee and is listed as questionable for Sunday's AFC championship game against the undefeated New England Patriots*.

Rivers injured his medial collateral ligament when he landed awkwardly after completing a 56-yard screen pass to Darren Sproles for a touchdown on the final play of the third quarter in Sunday's 28-24 upset of Indianapolis.

Coach Norv Turner compared Rivers' situation with that of tight end Antonio Gates, who dislocated his left big toe in a wild-card win over Tennessee, sat out practice all week and then played against the Colts.

"Right now it's probably questionable in terms of playing in the game, but he's got a chance," Turner said Monday. "That will be a day-to-day thing and we'll monitor it as the week goes on."

Billy Volek took over and led the go-ahead drive, scoring the winning touchdown on a 1-yard sneak.

Two-time NFL rushing champion LaDainian Tomlinson was injured on an 8-yard run during the second quarter and sat out the second half with an injured left knee, but said he expects to play.

"It's doing alright, it's a little sore today," Tomlinson said. "I think I'll definitely be able to play. I think they have me listed as questionable, but I'm pretty sure I'll be able to play."

Tomlinson finished with seven rushes for 28 yards and one reception for 20 yards. He was replaced by Michael Turner, who rushed for 71 yards on 17 carries.

The smallest ray of hope is that the early forecast is for the temperature being around 30 degrees with strong winds (+ 20 mph) in Foxboro

QBs say wind is worse than snow for passing teams

Green Bay is supposed to be 6 degrees with strong winds:jawdrop:

I know it is all about TV, but starting games outdoors after sundown in the Northeast or Midwest in late January is nuts

Unbelievable.

Have they played anyone at full strength? This has to be some kind of record for injured opponents.

If it's not evident enough already, I am simply livid about the Pats this year.

They are in the easiest division in all of football, are showcased by the media at every opportunity, and most of all, are the NFL's special little project to get ratings up. I even hear now that Webster Dictionary is changing the definition of the words 'terrific' and 'dazzling' to see Tom Brady* since Phil, Boomer, Cris, and Roger seem to insert his name into replace the actual definition time and time again.

Go Pack.

Classic if you are sitting somewhere warm watching a snow game on the HDTV:smile: (After watching Penguins-Sabres New Years Day & Pack-Seahawks last week I would run video of snow games if I sold HDTVs - incredible visuals)

IMO cold weather games are not so classic if you are there - it was a great game but the coldest I have ever been in my life was at Steelers-Raiders in January 1976 - drinking followed by sitting outside for 4 hours in a -10 wind chill is not the optimal viewing experience
