I must say the O looks good... but the competition is suspect thus far and wont be any different next week.

Funny to say, but Temple (who isnt really that awful... compared to the past) is the best team they play in the first 4!

Ever think you'd say that????

If Penn State keeps putting teams away earlier, they should have some pretty smooth sailing.

NOT IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM DID I THINK I WOULD EVER SAY TEMPLE WAS OUR BEST NON-CONFERENCE GAMES. They should have won vs. Uconn. Though pretty Much Temple has been pretty much Penn State's Bitch.

A BCS bowl pending they play as well as they have in the first 3 games wouldn't be out of the question. The Big Ten Schedule look interesting. They play Illinois to break in the new conference schedule. Penn State then has though 4 of the next 5 on the road which include trips to Columbus and Madison. Those 2 games especially how sloppy both teams have been, could go Penn State's way. They just can't have major slip ups.

Oregon State is a decent team. They are a way better test thanTemple will be. I just bet a buddy of mine that we will win at least 7 games. I can't believe he took the bet. We would have to go 2-6 in conference for me to lose, assuming we beat Temple. Not to be too giddy but IMO theres a much better chance of going 6-2

7-1 or even 8-0 in the conference seeing how the top 2 competitors for the Big Ten against us have been this year isn't out of the equation either.

Maybe!!!! And Yes. They are doing well.

Paterno. The respect this man commands is for legends.

Yeah an easy schedule but no one is trying to put them in the title game after beating Toledo or Penn Hills (eh em Buckeye fans.)

They are winning big when they should be winning big. And is there a stupid question that Paterno hasn't heard? Our media sucks on almost every level. Our media is riddled with post-mature juveniles. Girlly boys. Watching JoePa dealing with these freaking losers is hysterical.

I still think they drop at least 3 confrence games.

Don't even think that OSU's performance vs. USC means that they have more of a shot at them... OSU is still without a doubt (as much as it pains me) the class of that confrence and the only one really able this year to compete with the big boys. And we saw what happened when they tried.

3 blowout wins against no competition and one next week does not mean that PSU will even come near OSU either. Forget that Ohio game. OSU will handle them thoroughly.

Just like when everyone laughed at me with App State last year. If Michigan was that bad last year, why didnt PSU beat them?

Don;t judge them on this one loss. Every other team in the Big 10 would have lost by A LOT more to USC than the Bucks.

lilyoder6
09-14-2008, 07:11 PM

You can honestly say that other schools would not accept PSU on the schedule? Most would kill to play them with the history and prestige (not to mention crowds) they bring. SEC schools would salivate, especially Alabama.

No idea...the fact is, the dude is a super stud and probably the best running back in college football when healthy, but I don't think he's been healthy for any significant run of games his whole college career. Before any fans of other running backs take umbrage, he TORE it up the last 7-8 games last year, and he was gimpy. He's listed at 235, but he's playing at 250, and he's deceptively fast.

He wouldn't have won the game for the Bucks Saturday (Hell, JESUS wouldn't have changed the outcome of that game!) but I guarantee he would have made a big difference. He's THAT good...

When was the last time Alabama won anything?? Thats great that you like Alabama, but why do you feel the need to disparage another program??? Does it make you feel better? Alabama's been a joke for longer than I can remember but you don't see me going onto a message board over there and talking down to the likes of you.

I'll give you credit for one thing, if it wasn't for Alabama there would only be about half as many strippers in Atlanta.

Boeckman looked like shit today. He had a wide open WR on a slant, and he tossed a knuckler into the turf about 7 yards short. He was never the answer to begin with, and it's actually about time OSU started actually recruiting real QB's. besides, whatever confidence he had left is now shot.

I feel bad for him too, but he lost his job because his performance has done nothing but decline since about the midway point of last year.

The few times they actually LET Pryor pass, he was right on (he only made one errant throw that I saw), I mean the dude threw 16 passes, and 4 of them were for TD's. And they weren't 2 yard passes either, being 13, 16, 38 and 39 yard strikes respectively.

Pryor if he gets the right weapons can do wonders for Ohio State.

I'd recommend finding a way to end up under the North Endzone Deck. I would suggest the south, but you'd have to end up in the Club Level or just to the right of the student section(If you faced the South End from the North End)

Penn State beats Temple, 45-3
Leg trouble sends Paterno to press box for final 30 minutes
Saturday, September 20, 2008
By Ron Musselman, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. --- Penn State quarterback Daryll Clark threw two first-half touchdown passes and ran for another as No. 16 Penn State overcame a scoreless first quarter to pound Temple, 45-3, today at Beaver Stadium.

Joe Paterno, bothered by a sore right leg, coached the first half from the sideline. But after his team built a 31-0 lead at the intermission, he moved to the press box for the final 30 minutes.

Backup tailback Stephfon Green ran for more than 100 yards for the first time in his career and scored on a 69-yard touchdown jaunt. Starting tailback Evan Royster added his seventh rushing touchdown of the year, a 32-yarder, for the Nittany Lions (4-0).

Chaz Powell also scored on a 7-yard run and Kevin Kelly kicked a 44-yard field goal as Penn State beat Temple (1-3) for the 26th consecutive time.

The Owls lost starting quarterback Adam DiMichele to a right shoulder injury on the first series.

This from Boeckman after the game (and I'm leaving the reporters comments in):

"Boeckman, one of four team captains, showed up for postgame interviews.

Asked if it was a difficult day for him, he said: “I’m happy for Terrelle. He had a great day. He did some great things out there. He’s getting better every time he’s out there and he made some great plays. I’m excited for this team and for him.”

Then he left through a side door."

I have to give the kid props. He's putting a good front up...even though he might not be able to ball much, he's clearly a good kid. But with him at the helm, OSU goes 9-4 this year. Pryor is the future. And he's going to make that OSU/PSU game a good one.

Boeckman is a good guy. I never really see him get out in the media and talking crap. Good Job by him to speak well of his teammate. Pryor will probably get at least 1 or 2 starts during Big Ten Play. Penn State though I don't know if he gets one.

Pryor is now the starter for the Buckeyes. He will start all the rest of the games. He has pleny of people to throw to, they just need to actually let him throw. Bear in mind, 1/4 of his passes in this game went for TD's.

And Troy is no slouch. They've beaten BCS teams before. They hung 31 on Florida, and 34 on Georgia last year. Holding them to 10 was impressive.

Do you know ANYTHING about Jo Pa football? Because Tress learned it all from him. You NEVER start Frosh, and always start Seniors. Your captains are always Seniors. Your team is run by upperclassmen and the new kids take on a mentor/protege relationship. It's the way it was, and is, and always will be...

Lou Holtz said it best this week though, when he stated that "Tradition is always under construction".

Tress gets that now. The game has changed, and he needs to change along with it.

Pryor is the future, and the future is now. He's the missing link that OSU has lacked.

I'm gleaning here that you are pretty young, so there's no reason to be harsh...but watch this year and learn.

I'm in shock to see this, but it's for the best. Especially in this day and age where you may only have a player for 2-3 years, why NOT get them out on the field.

He's 19, playing for one one ofthe most scrutinized programs in the country, where there is overwheling pressure to win, and he's handling it fine. He's only going to get better every game. With him and Wells back their, OSU is going to be very formidable down the road, and still definitely the team to beat in the Big Ten...

I did answer your question. Tress doesn's start frosh, period. And he certainly won't start a freshman when he has a 6th year SR. QB who was in the Heisman running for 7/10ths of the season last year of a National Championship Game appearing season.

I'm more curious about this: If Pryor IS NOT so great, then why was PSU falling all over themselves trying to recruit him?

Uh huh...because Tress is feeling the pressure. You don't lose at OSU, you play for NC's, period. They will never let another Cooper pass through their doors. The pressure forced him to change his own status quo.

Pryor WAS heavily recruited by PSU, and they lost out. That leaves a bitter taste in many Pennsylvanians mouths because anyone who has ever seen this kid, let alone seen him play, knows that he has greatness written all over him.

A) Why do you insist that Troy is a shitty team? They consistently give big name schools fits.
B) Pryor was 7 of 9 for 52 against USC, and ran 11 times for 40 yards. Those are pretty impressive numbers.
C) This is straight up hate. Pryor is a phenom, and he didn't go to your school. He's just going to get better and better, regardless of the level of competition.
D) Wells is back. Who do you guard against? The best RB in the country, or perhaps the best running QB in the country?

lilyoder6
09-24-2008, 11:37 AM
A; troy is a shitty team b/c they don't beat any of the big schools
B: he didn't play enoguh against usc to show what he can rly do.. i mean if the def pratice against a passing qb and then throw in a scrambler for a ply or 2 the def won't be able to adjust as quickly..
C:i could care less he didn't go to psu.. there are more players than just him.. it's not hate it's the truth.. he rly hasn't played against anyone.. only 1 start against a shitty team
D: wells is prob the best rb in the country but tress will prob play him in the3rd quarter in a blow out and he'll get hurt again

how can u say that pryor is the best running qb in the country?? he only started 1 game and has a coupe of runs there and there in other situtions... (who's drinking pryor kool-aid?) also i would say that tebow is better at running the ball since he had 20 plus tds running last yr

The truth?

Surely you jest.

The truth is he was the #1 recruit coming out of HS. The truth is that he set all kinds of passing and rushing records in PA (which, I actually NEED to remind you, is the cradle of quarterbacks). The truth is he completed 78% of his passes against the #1 team in the country. The truth is he's the first true freshman to start at OSU since Art Schleister. The truth is that in 30 years of watching college football, I've never seen a more naturally gifted and talented athlete play the position so effortlessly. The truth is nobody has called him a God but you. The truth is that the more you protest and feign that you weren't interested, the more your bitterness at not landing him makes itself apparent.

The truth shall set you free (and add an L to your win/loss column) on October 25th.

That's a strong statement coming from a program that has had it's share of VERY disappointing upsets at home from unranked, non-BSC conference teams. Toledo Rockets, anyone?

But what about the 20 snaps he took against USC? The best team in the country? And the fact that it was THAT performance that stole the starting job away from a 6th year senior? That performance can't be marginalized, no matter how you spin it.

Minnesota better pack it's lunch this week...should be big numbers from both Pryor and Wells...

That White Out was something...

My point about Wells is that you will be facing a more potent offense ON THE ROAD against OSU AND the Buckeyes defense is much more solid than Illinois.

we have to see bout that game at osu.. to see how healthy evryone is and such like that.. i hope evryone will be healthy so it will make for a good game....

the only sad thing is that sean lee is able to play..

well i would have to say that PSU is the best decent team then in the country..... and idk bout wisconsin anymore... they lost to michigan.. who had 5 TO's in the 1st half

Far from the best decent team in the country. I think half the SEC would debate that alone.

Michigan is going to scare a lot of people. Don't underestimate them.

They got work to do, but they're getting there.

Michigan after the performance they put up against Wisconsin, I wouldn't be stunned if the games with them along with Penn State and Ohio State factors into the Big Ten Championship chase after this week in conference play.

Michigan winning comes down to one thing: They still have a good run defense, and Wiscy is pretty one-dimensional on offense. That's why I think OSU will handle them next week, even though Camp Randall is a rough place to play.

They could have and should have knocked the Wolverines out early, but they let them hang around and stay in the fight.

Michigan, by the way, is going to lose a few more games. They'll be lucky if they beat Illinois, MSU might beat them, and OSU and PSU are both going to beat them and probably pretty badly. They will be lucky to go 8-4, most likely will end up 6-6 and play is some shitty Christmas bowl against a 3rd place Mountain West team.

Penn State defeats Purdue
Saturday, October 04, 2008
By Ron Musselman, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. --- No. 6 Penn State remained perfect, even with Joe Paterno working from the coaches box and not the sideline.

Quarterback Daryll Clark scored on a 1-yard sneak and tailback Evan Royster added a two-yard scoring run and 141 yards rushing as the Nittany Lions beat Purdue, 20-6, today at Ross-Ade Stadium.

Paterno, bothered by a sore right leg he injured while trying an onside kick in practice three days before the Aug. 30 opener, was not on the sideline for the first time since the 2006 Outback Bowl.

The Lions (6-0, 2-0 Big Ten) were held scoreless in the first quarter. But they managed 10 points in the second on Clark's short fourth-down run and on Kevin Kelly's 25-yard field goal.

Royster's eighth rushing touchdown of the year in the third quarter took place one play after wide receiver Deon Butler converted a third-and-17 play with an acrobatic 23-yard reception from Clark. Butler turned his entire body around to make the grab along the sideline.

Kelly added his second field goal, a 20-yarder, in the fourth quarter. The kick was set up by nickel back Drew Astorino's interception.

Purdue (2-3, 0-1) lost its 16th consecutive game to a ranked opponent. The Boilermakers, who had gone 11 quarters without an offensive touchdown against Penn State, avoided the shutout when Kory Sheets scored on a 1-yard run with 6:28 remaining. Summers missed the extra point, snapping a streak of 111 made in a row.

Purdue sucks...they lost to ND last week. This was a hangover game for the Lions and they need to step it up next week to make that OSU game as big as it should be.

It is interesting that first the Bucks than the Lions go into Camp Randall to face Wiscy on consecutive weekends.

Poor Badgers...they have a good team, but could lose 3 in a row. And they were early season NC darkhorses.

I'm just happy with the win. That's the only thing that matters in the end.

Penn State does NEED to play strong next week against Wisconsin, Michigan and Ohio State alike if they want to be clearly in the picture for the National Championship.

Only thing though rev, Under Bilemma, Wisconsin has NEVER lost at home. This week and next could be the first 2 if Ohio State and Penn State play up to their potential.

I'm wondering about that PSU Wiscy game more and more. I do NOT envy PSU. First off, Wiscy has nothing to lose now, so they could do anything at any time, and can throw their usual conservatism out the window. Secondly, provided they keep their pride, they are going to play VERY motivated football. They played a HELLUVA game against OSU and left their guts out on the field. If they don't throw in the towel they are a VERY dangerous team right now, and may relish playing spoiler.

This will be a giant test for PSU.

This has been the rule of thumb with Wisconsin when it comes to Penn State ESPECIALLY since 2005

Blow the snot out of them at Beaver Stadium

Run into a tough game at Camp Randall.

If JoePa continues to shove it down their throats that the whole ranking they have is just a number and to play like they're capable of, sky is the limit at Camp Randall.

PSU controls their own destiny. If they win out, it's almost a certainty that they'll play for the NC game.

But they need to win out first, and OSU is going to have something to say about that if Wiscy doesn't first.

If they just play the way they're capable of and don't let the number in front of their school name go to their head, they should be fine. I want Joe to drill that in there to them and that they still have to win to continue to have that type of respect.
