after only one winning season:

Cleveland Browns head coach Romeo Crennel has signed a two-year contract extension keeping him at the club until 2011, the team announced on Tuesday.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but according to a report in the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the extension is worth around US$4 million a year.

"We're pleased to get this two-year extension done with Romeo Crennel," said Browns general manager Phil Savage. "Romeo has proven that he can be a winning NFL head coach, and he has the respect of the players and of the entire organisation.

"Not only is Romeo an excellent coach, he is a person of impeccable character, which sets an exemplary tone for everyone in the Browns' organisation."

Crennel had two years remaining on the five-year contract he signed when he joined the Browns in 2005.

"I would like to thank Randy Lerner and the Lerner family for their confidence in the direction the program is going," said Crennel.

"I would also like to thank Phil Savage, the Browns organisation, as well as my coaches and players without whom none of this would be possible.

"We are excited for the upcoming season and will continue to work extremely hard toward making the Browns a consistent competitor within the division and a consistent winner in the NFL."

Crennel began the season amid speculation that he might be fired, having gone 10-22 in his first two years and facing a tough schedule.

But the Browns defied expectations to go 10-6, just missing out on the play-offs in a battle that went to the last day of the regular-season.

He has the man power before and the coaches, he was adamant about Mo Carthon being the right person, he said they had to dummy up the plays for the players. They get a OC that knows what he is doing, and Crennel gets an extension? Tell me it isn't so. Or are they setting him up for a golden parachute for getting fired?

Remember Rome wasn't built in a day!!

Besides I'm sure the Steelers will gladly invade and take over once it is built (LOL)!

Be glad your owner isn't Al Davis, playing the revolving door with his coaches year in and year out.

As much asI hate to say it Cleveland is the favorite to win the AFCN next year IMO. Romeo could be around for a while.

romeo does deserve it he did take a shitty team and turned them into a play off team caliber this past season.. now if they go back to being the same old browns next yr, then this might not be so great.. we'll just have to wait and see if this past yr was justa fluke or what

That is exactly what I mean, wait one year and see if it was a fluke. He had a couple years left on his contract, so why not wait one more year and see if he could do it again. I mean with his questionable choice of OC in Maurice Carthon and then insisting it was the team and not Moe...??? Then they bring in a real OC and the team takes off. Crennel gets the credit and people forget about the blunder with Carthon? To me it doesn't work that way. You put the team first when you are HC and frienship second, as in business.

Maybe I expect to much anymore of a HC, maybe I am to much old school football. But that is just my opinion and would like to know yours.

I think that was a smart move by the Browns FO, TBD. I believe Romeo did a fabulous job turning the Browns around (with a little help from the Steelers by running Charlie Frye out of town - LOL! :wink02:) and for your team, I believe its only going to get better. Give the guy a chance - thus far, I don't think he's been a disappointment.

I still think he stinks, he hasn't proved a thing to me yet, except he knows how to eat.
:toofunny::toofunny::toofunny:

I get it you want us to have a bad coach so you can continue to rub our nose in it. SO that's it is it? Shame on you. LOL :sofunny::sofunny::sofunny:

Okay okay you have a right to your opinion and I have mine. I may be eating crow in the future, but hey I still have my Avatar that I am kinda beginning to become attached to.
