2008 NFL Draft Tight End Rankings
Rivals.com

This year's tight end group was enhanced by the addition of blue-chip junior Martellus Bennett, who may be the first prospect selected in April.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
POSITION GRADE B
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Senior prospects Martin Rucker, Fred Davis and John Carlson are all fine performers who can be top-100 selections if they have strong performances at the NFL Combine in late February. This class lacks a first-round prospect, but it is a solid group of playmakers - one of the deeper ones at the position in recent years.

Tight End Rankings

1. * Martellus Bennett, 6-6, 235, Texas A&M
This athletic tight end has the physical package to develop further, but he had a frustrating 2007 season.

2. Martin Rucker, 6-5, 250, Missouri
This pass-catching tight end is athletic and skilled enough to fill all the roles for the position.

3. Fred Davis, 6-4, 250, USC
Davis is a mobile and athletic player who has shown fine receiving skills and improved blocking ability. He should be an early NFL starter.

4. John Carlson, 6-5, 255, Notre Dame
This sure-handed receiver is coming off a weak final season and an offseason illness that leaves his NFL Combine workout critical to his stock.

5. Kellen Davis, 6-6, 260, Michigan State
Davis is a huge prospect who combines fine size, speed, agility and movement skills. He gets into the deep seam well.

6. * Jermichael Finley, 6-5, 235, Texas
This fluid athlete displays well-developed receiving skills. He could be a real factor in a pro passing game early in his career.

7. Dustin Keller, 6-3, 245, Purdue
This receiving tight end has been very productive over his Big Ten career. He can give the right offense an added dimension.

8. Jacob Tamme, 6-4, 230, Kentucky
Tamme is a sure-handed receiver who developed nicely in the UK passing game. He has displayed the run-after-the-catch skills to be a fine weapon in the pros.

9. Joey Haynos, 6-7, 265, Maryland
Haynos is a big target who made nice progress over his final season. He has moved up significantly in this solid class of prospects.

10. Brad Cottam, 6-7, 270, Tennessee
Cottam is a huge target. He had a good week at the Senior Bowl after an injury-marred final season with the Volunteers.

11. Tom Santi, 6-4, 250, Virginia
12. Chris Brown, 6-2, 250, Tennessee
13. Darrell Strong, 6-5, 262, Pittsburgh
14. Craig Stevens, 6-4, 255, California
15. Gary Barnidge, 6-5, 235, Louisville

just to add to our size at the TE position i'd like to see us think about in the later rounds... just so we dont have to worry about tuman...

With Miller as a SOLID starter...Spaeth showing incredible potential in his first year..and Dekker backing them up...we can ignore TE this year and possibly let Tuman go.

Cody Boyd 6'8" 264lbs is also on the roster. That makes 5 TE's currently in the mix.

No way does a TE get a sniff on draft day.

Yep, that was a good pickup. He will likely be our 3rd TE. Dekker is garbage

well martin rucker is a good player.. he's fast enough to play a wr on some downs if need be, even tho chase coffman had a better season than he did and rucker started over him...

Thats right. The tight ends will get plenty of sniffs at the combine.

Glad I am not a scout:thumbsup:

The Steelers need the next version of Mark Bruener to show up this coming season. It would not bother me at all to see the Steelers select a strictly Just Blocking TE this year late in the
draft.
