Tuesday, February 19, 2008

The Steelers signed veteran defensive end Travis Kirschke to a two-year contract extension today.

Kirschke, 33, recorded 29 tackles, two sacks and three quarterback hurries primarily as a backup in 2007.

He replaced injured starter Aaron Smith for three games during the regular season and also started against Jacksonville in the playoffs.

Kirschke joined the Steelers as a free agent in 2004.

We need depth and guys that know the system. Guess that got him signed.

that good we signed him, he adds quality depth and can provide leadership

With the lack of depth on the d-line to begin with, I don't think we could have afforded not to re-sign him.

great, a good veteran backup

now get some younger guys in the draft, and do not bring eason back

i like the signing for depth, and depth only, but we still need to get a younger defensive line.

Kirschke will be good for veteran leadership. We still need to get some younger guys. We have 2 guys who are solid DL(Snack and Smith). But Kiesel's spot bugs me.

That made absolutely no sense.

It was a good signing. We have depth issues on the DLine as it is, and it was either him or Eason. He was signed for chump change, and he is not a bad backup.
