To the great one we had in the 90's w/ Woodson, Lake, and company.. Those are some pretty big shoes to fill but back then we drafted DB after DB every year for several years in a row and we ended up some great players and alot of depth.. quietly the last 3 years we've started that trend again.. w/ Coc, Taylor, McFadden, Polamalu, and Hope.. along w/ the vets like Willie Williams, and Deshea finally getting his shot.. we've got a formidable secondary w/ good depth...... they're right now just beginning to find out how good they really are.
couple good articles..

All great points Blitz. I was just thinking about this the other day. It is probably a little to early to tell. But things are looking pretty good though. We have never seen the likes of a Troy Polamula. With great safeties like Lake and Donnie Shell, Troy is from a different mould. And Ike and McFadden are really coming on, but Woodson may have been the best we have ever had, and that says alot considering we had Mel Blount. But as a group these guys may challenge to be the best we have ever had. Lets hope.

Yeah Woodson was in a class all his own..returning kicks, punts, shadowing the teams best WR in single coverage week in and week out, he was always on the field ! You just kinda get that feeling that even though all of our guys are young,if we can keep them together, we've got something special in the works here that can strike fear into the opposing offense for years and years to come.

I really like how our secondary is shaping up. Ike has been doing very well. McFadden has been looking pretty good. Troy is just everywhere on that field and seems involved in every play. BRC said it best when he said Woodson was in a class of his own. The guy was great and that is a tough guy to live up to.
I agree with you guys about Woodson but Mel Blount was every bit the corner Woodson was. Were talking about 2 guys of who it would be safe to say would be on a list of top 5 corners of all time.

Our defense's have always had stellar CB's and LB's...but the DL is the unsung hero's.... if u notice every time a LB or DB is approached about how well they played, they always credit the 3 big guys up front for taking on the blocks and getting penetration..when you have pressure like that, it makes the DB's and LB's jobs that much easier... cuz ya cant throw when ur on ur ass!
Two good articles... I never thought I would see the day where we would have a good secondary again.

We definately have a good crop that is benefiting from our pass rush. We just need to keep consistency in what we are doing and hope that Dick Lebeau quits aging and never retires.
