I think it would be a great idea to honor Myron by declaring Tuesday as Terrible Towel Tuesday? I think that his funeral arrangements are going to be private, and I don't know when it is, but it would be a cool way to honor him. Wear your Terrible Towel to to work or wherever for the whole day and let everyone know how strong the Steeler Nation is!

Thoughts?

Great idea! The City of Pittsburgh is planning a Terrible Towel day in honor of Myron tomorrow at noon on the City-County Building steps in downtown Pittsburgh. :tt02::tt02:

Terrible Towel Day Planned To Honor Cope

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) ― Pittsburghers continue to offer their final goodbyes to legendary Steelers broadcaster Myron Cope.

The beloved local icon died at a Mount Lebanon nursing home on Wednesday at the age of 79.

Everyone from the Steelers to Cope's friends and Pittsburghers to his co-workers have been offering their condolences and fond memories of the writer and sportscaster.

Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl announced plans today for a Terrible Towel Day, featuring ? of course - the waving towels, on Friday afternoon.

The Mayor and local radio station, B-94, are asking Pittsburghers to bring their Terrible Towels to work with them Friday morning. Then, at noon, join together on the Grant Street steps of the City-County Building for the tribute.

"We want to have a Terrible Towel Day tomorrow for the city of Pittsburgh," said B94 DJ, Bubba, "and also any people that aren't in Pittsburgh anymore - cause you know once a Pittsburgher always a Pittsburgher - where everybody takes their Terrible Towel to work wherever they go tomorrow and make it official Terrible Towel Day."

Cope's tenure as the color analyst on the Steelers' radio network from 1970-2004 is the longest in NFL history for a broadcaster with a single team. In 2005, he was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame.

Cope recently had been treated for heart and respiratory problems.

On Wednesday night, the University of Pittsburgh paid tribute to Cope with a Terrible Towel wave at the men's basketball game. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1951, and served as a color analyst for the Panthers football team in 1983.

Cope's longtime friend, Bill Hillgrove, said, "It was an incredible life, an incredible career. He was just a unique guy."

Thanks for the info HometownGal! I had no idea of when the funeral was, but Terrible Towel Tuesday had a good ring to it. I'm sure the Steeler fanbase here in IL will have their towels with them tomorrow.

I broke out my terrible towel yesterday when I heard the news. I plan on keeping it out until the funeral.
The terrible towel is always stored away after the last Steeler game, but this is a sad, but special, occasion.

I have a terrible towel t-shirt I can wear Tuesday.

Me too. I normally have my terrible towels with me at college, but I took them home for the last playoff game, because I was watching the game at home and I didnt bring them back with me to school :( So, I won't have mine with me, but I will be wearing my Steelers attire.

Mine is hanging on my apartment door - - - most of the folks in my building are Bronco fans, but a few 'closet' Steelers fans have identified themselves to me... I actually have found 5 post it notes on my door this week expressing sympathy for the loss that all of the Steeler Nation is feeling....

I have Colorado Springs (at least a little part of it) covered....
