I think with this years ominous looking schedule that its very important the Steelers don't get screwed again this year with the bye week.
Seems like every year we get the bye early, by say by week 5, (week 6 last year)where as it would be friggin nice to have it in the later half of the season for once.

Have we ever had a bye week in the last few weeks they are taken ?

If so I can't recall and its bout time this was made a rotataing thing. I think it can make a difference in the playoff push the second half of the season if the players get to rest & recharge their batteries for the playoff stretch.

Thoughts ??? Or am I just whinning over something un-important here.....

Seems like New England always gets a nice spot for their bye week, I believe in 2001 their *first superbowl* had a bye the last week heading into the playoffs.

Cheers:cheers:

The Super Bowl run season I think we had it late in the year (around week 10) if I'm correct.

But I agree it seems that certain teams are previ to certain schedules including "BYE" weeks - but that's just the NFL conspiracy theorist in me.

The truth of the matter is this - years ago this game used to be played without a "BYE" week. And players didn't mind. Now we talk about the strategically placed "BYE" week. Bottom line - play every game, like it means something and we won't have to worry about when the "BYE" week hits the schedule.

:iagree: every game should matter, not when are we getting a bye week.

Not at all - I too am sick of getting our bye week in the first 4/5 weeks of the season, and it wouldn't surprise me if it happened to us again, while the "Greatest Team Ever"gets theirs in week 9 or 10 of their cupcake schedule. Just have to deal with it. Guess we'll find out next month when the official season schedule is released.

OK I did a little research on when we got the bye weeks in the last few years:

2001 week 3
2002 week 3
2003 week 7
2004 week 7
2005 week 4 (super bowl year)
2006 week 4
2007 week 6

It's never very late in the season is it?

I like around week 6 because the players are having their first in game physical experience in months so they need a bye week after a few weeks.

If we follow that pattern, we should be week 6 again this year.

Thanks for the research, I was too lazy to look it up, but aways remember saying to myself when the schedule comes out "we got screwewd again with the bye week".

I also think that Thanksgiving games should rotate as that is an unfair advantage to the home teams. They get to play games at home for consecutive weeks while the teams have to always travel to Dallas and Detroit on short weeks.

Hey its the off season so we need to talk about something right. :blah:

Bye week around week 9 - 10 would be nice this year, fingers crossed.

Had some time so looked up Pats bye weeks as a comparison. One in week 3 and the rest much later......

*2001 week 17 (cheat bowl year)
2002 week 7
*2003 week 10 (cheat bowl year)
*2004 week 3 (cheat bowl year)
2005 week 7
2006 week 6
2007 week 9

With all the travel to the Left coast this year, they will need all the breaks they can take. Hope its week 3, that would be great.

How do they decide the bye week just luck of the draw maybe.

I believe your right. However it doesn't make sense. The Steelers are one of the better organizations in the NFL and have been for a long time. Clearly the Rooneys have helped the NFL be what it is today. WE are not asking for favoritism just fairness. But do you all see it as the NFL is down on the Steelers and a few of the other teams?
