Any PITT Fans on this board or am I the only one that roots for BOTH teams that play at Heinz Field.

I'm excited about the Notre Dame game next season. in South Bend, me and the wife will be road tripping from Arkansas to see the Touchdown Jesus and Shady and crew run the ball down that over rated ND team's throat.

Had a great time in Nebraska a few seasons ago, even though we lost by 3, it was great to be part of the sea of red and rooting for the away team.

Well...not a Pitt fan, but I am looking forward to their game against UB next season. Why? Because I go to UB, and this could be my chance to finally get into Heinz Field. Still figuring out the logistics, but there's time. I have to go look at the Pitt campus anyway. Interested in the library sciences program for the following year. Actually, that said, I may be a Pitt fan eventually.

Isn't it odd that the WVU game is not the last game of the season?

Dino 6 Rings
03-07-2008, 09:35 AM
Yeah, they were talking about moving that game around. I stinks that it isn't the final game anymore. Its still the Thanksgiving weekend game, we just have a game the following week as well. Not sure why that happened for this schedule.

But we get ND and Iowa next season, so that's a boost to the Out of Conference rankings. Can't believe we have to go to Uconn for the last game. That stinks big time.

Who says you may not be 6-5 in the 12th game of the year and Uconn rests their starters? Might help Bowl Eligibility.

Hopefully, we have 10 plus wins by that time and we won't need to rely on someone "resting" players.

I don't accept 7 win season. I want greatness from all my favorite programs. Dave W better get the winning back to the Burg, now that he's into his 4th season and "his guys" are driving the bus.

Anything can happen. Though this season should be the year Pitt finally breaks out under Wanny. All 4 classes are his class as you mentioned. Pitt will probably be the most interesting team to watch this year.

Attended PITT and obviously a big fan. Nice win over Cincinnati last night. Louisville is going to be a tough one. Although we only lost by three the last time we met. Kept it close. Who knows though?

As for Wanny, I'm still scratching my head over the extension.

Excellent night last night for true Pittsburgh sports. PITT and the Pens pull out important wins.

Alumni in the family doesn't always get you in. Take it from someone who knows. My uncle is one of several Colgate University alumni in my family - and the football coach there for many years, to boot. Part of the stadium is named after him, even. Didn't get in, even with that connection or the grades I had. Good luck, though.

As for Buffalo being an easy win (see page 1 - won't name names), that sort of thinking might get you into trouble *cough*Dino5Rings*cough**cough* Oh - and Buffalo, an MAC school, just like Bowling Green.

Well, I don't know how competitive Pitt is. I'll be finding out in about a year, but anyway. Colgate is (apparently) more competitive than Harvard. I also have a feeling they didn't take me, because you have to pass a swim test to graduate (for serious), and I have cerebral palsy and can't swim. Never knew for sure, because they couldn't legally tell me why I didn't get in. But like I said, I don't know how competitive Pitt is, so you could still get in.

At Colgate? No idea. Apparently, they do the same thing at Harvard. And SUNY Potsdam makes you take four physical education classes - which is why I left after a year. So I really don't know. It's just silly.

Looks like Fields will be back on the team, in the secondary, hope he keeps his nose clean, he's got talent. Kinder back also, for his senior season after getting the medical redshirt for last year. PG South: TJ grad DeCicco helps Pitt reload
He's in a position to start on defense
Thursday, April 24, 2008
By Chris Adamski, Tri-State Sports & News Service
Dom DeCicco did a lot of winning in high school.

Now this Thomas Jefferson High School graduate wants to do the same in college, too.
Over his four seasons as a quarterback and defensive back on the Jaguars football team, DeCicco left the field a winner 51 times -- and only had to suffer through six defeats. He helped lead TJ to two WPIAL Class AAA titles and the 2004 PIAA championship.
That changed over the course of one season, his freshman year at Pitt last fall. The Panthers lost more times in a three-month span than DeCicco had during his four-year experience in high school. Pitt went 5-7 and didn't qualify for a bowl bid.
As he moves into what could be his first season as a starter at the collegiate level -- and what most certainly will be the first one in which he plays a significant role with the Pitt defense -- DeCicco is determined not to allow another losing season to happen.
"When you come from a program that wins as much as we did, it was tough last year losing all those games," DeCicco said. "But we know with the way we all have been working and -- with a lot of the newer players coming in here -- that sooner or later we're going to be one of the top teams, a team to watch out for."
The Panthers wrapped up spring practice last week with the annual Blue-Gold Game Saturday at Heinz Field. A starting strong safety in the game, DeCicco led all players in unassisted tackles with four and was second in total tackles with six.
The Blue-Gold Game was just another step in an offseason during which the 6-foot-3 DeCicco said he added some weight and strength working with Pitt strength and conditioning coach Buddy Morris.
"It was the first time I've done his program, and it helped me a lot," said DeCicco, who finished up his freshman year with final exams last week.
DeCicco lettered last season with most of his action coming on special teams. He was a reserve free safety but this season has been playing strong safety.
"There's not that big a difference," he said.
DeCicco and Duquesne High School graduate Elijah Fields are in competition for the starting spot.
"At the beginning it was kind of unnerving because every play out there, you have to be on top of your game because you have somebody behind you, competing with you, someone as good as Elijah who is making plays all the time," DeCicco said. "But it just has made me that much better. I always have to come out and be at the top of my game."
DeCicco and the rest of the Panthers' defense is adjusting to a new coordinator this season in Phil Bennett. He replaced Paul Rhodes, who left to take the same position at Auburn.
DeCicco said Bennett left much of the defense the same and just added some new wrinkles. Still, he said that Benett's personality is different and that Bennett is stressing a more aggressive, playmaking approach and philosophy to the defense. The Panthers were second-to-last in the Big East in both interceptions and forced turnovers.
DeCicco said he would like to see himself as a player who could help be part of a turnaround in those areas.
DeCicco isn't the only Thomas Jefferson alumnus on the Panthers defense. Nate Nix is a 6-foot-3, 225-pound redshirt sophomore linebacker who enters his second season of eligibility this fall. Nix, a good friend of DeCicco, is listed as second on the depth chart at one of the outside linebacker spots.
"He's been getting better and better," DeCicco said. "He's starting to understand the defense a lot better than he probably did at the beginning. Now I think he's starting to make plays out there everytime he's on the field because he has a better understanding of what's going on."
Coming from the same successful high school program, it's safe to say that Nix is just as troubled by the losing as DeCicco. But to hear DeCicco tell it, the Panthers are on their way to mirroring the Jaguars' success.
"If you look at all the talent we have this year and how the season ended last year, the expectations are much higher," DeCicco said.
"We have high expectations for ourselves. Anything less than a top bowl game is unacceptable."

Props to PITT for getting to guys drafted so far.

Jeff Otah, 19th overall, 1st round.

Michael McGlynn, 109 overall, 4th round.

Cox, Clermond, Strong, all looking like walk ons at this point.

Well Cox went next to last, probably had a better chance walking on somewhere, but I guess if he can make any roster, the Bills roster should be the one.

3 guys drafted.

Great read for any PITT Fans out there:

http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/story/8215474/Expectations-rising-for-Panthers-in-2008

"There's a quiet storm brewing at Pitt.
The convergence of yet another great recruiting class, the emergence of RB LeSean McCoy and last December's upset of second-ranked West Virginia has the Panthers entering 2008 with a head of steam and the realistic hopes of making a huge leap into Big East title contention. Yeah, you've heard this song before, but the program finally appears ready to make good on fourth-year head coach Dave Wannstedt's promise to get things back on the right track. This had better be the big season everyone has been expecting because the staff is running low on equity.

Since coming back home, Wannstedt has made good on his vow to raise the talent level at Pitt through intense recruiting. While he has brought in some fantastic classes, the improvement hasn't equaled success on the field for going just 16-19 over the last three years. If ever there was a crossroads season for a coaching staff, this is it."

LETS GO PITT!!!

I guess that's why his team knocked the snot out of WVU last season and prevented them from going to the National Title game.

We'll see how the Big East shapes up with the 2nd best linebacker in the NCAA playing for the panthers and a passing attack to rival our running attack on offense.

That's I think has held you guys back in the past. Wanny's inability to develop these players and develop them right has caused Pitt to have seasons that EASILY could have not happened. But, consistently shooting yourself in the foot will NOT help one bit.

I hope at the end of this college season that "being a good recruiter does not make you a good coach ' comes forth as truth at Pitt.

Dave has to produce a solid winning season and reputable bowl invitation.. I sincerely wish him well because he does have talent .

Lots of talent at PITT and this is Dave's make or break year. There were quite a few close games last year that ended in tough losses, the OT attempt at 2 vs Navy for the win that failed and the fumbled ball at the Louisville 1 yard line going in for the tie, another tough loss. I like our talent and hopefully we can get things going this year to compete to take the Big East Title.
