Decent article by Prisuta.. normally I cant stand his stuff, but this one is pretty clear cut and decent.. anyways..

We've got Hines, El, Bus, Miller, Parker, Morgan....all waiting to be used in a big way.. is it imperative for us to open up the arsenal and let Ben start getting more passes and making more plays in the passing game.....or do we stick w/ the par, and run run run, and just let Ben do enough to win the game so to speak.

He's played well, and he's got the talent, but is it time to let loose more, or just keep doin what we're doing...

Thoughts ?

i don't know i think maybe keep with the running game this year and let ben grow even more, and then next year i say open it up a lot

I don't want to much of either one. I would like to see a balanced attack...

Yeah, I know u wanna take little steps w/ a young QB..he's done great so far in his career! When u look at it.. the guy has lost to only 1 team in the NFL since he stepped in.

He proved he can come back in the end and help pull off the win, so lets hope when we need him, he'll continue to do so...but the more we can utilize him come playoff time, the better off we'll be, cuz we're gonna need everything he has.

Steelers of the seventies! Run,Run,Run, then get to the big dance, surprise everyone Pass.pass,pass. ===== Superbowl trophy. This is what I want to do.

Well..."pass, pass, pass" in the last two SUper Bowls, at least. The first two were DEE-fense and run, run, run.

I say play Steeler football which has, for the most part, kept them in the upper Echelon of the NFL for the majority of Cowher's tenure. That is Defense and Run the ball.

When they tinkered with a passing offense, they lose time of possession and they had a losing season in '03. People bitch about not winning a Super Bowl. I say, you have to get there to contend and if they keep staying in the picture in January, they will eventually play in February.

I'm solidly in the "50/50 balanced attack" crowd. And that means opening the offense up just a bit.

I loved our opening drive, a lovely piece of Steeler football, pound it a while, throw for first downs, nothing flashy, but workmanlike.

If we could just sustain more of those, these games would be over by halftime.

ROETHLISBERGER BREAKS A MILESTONE THEN MAKES A BREAK

By MIKE HAWK, Associated Press Writer

PITTSBURGH - Ben Roethlisberger tied a career high with 30 pass attempts Monday night against a depleted Baltimore Ravens defense. As a result of this unbelieveable passing display, Roethlisberger's arm fell off.

More to follow.

Well, Ben's stats at Miami were:

342 of 495, 37 TDs, 10 Int, averaging 320 yards/game.

So, he can pass more if he needs to ;)

I'm with the balanced attack vote.

For now we have to stick to the run.
I think once we get to the playoffs, our success is going to depend on the pass.
I hope Washington can work into the offense more
And before we "open" the offense up were gonna need to get a big receiver.
It would be hard to do in FA, because any receiver knows we are a run first football team
However, if we could get another PLAX, or someone who can streatch the field. I think our passing game is going to open up next year...remember, once Bettis is gone, we dont have a back that can pound it and run the clock down, and staley is going to be hurt until 2007, I think the the first position taken in the draft this year, RB, or WR, and that will tell us if the steelers are going to have ben open it up next year.....

I can't believe I am saying this, but stick with what works......Do you honestly think you would have beat us trying to pass?
The running game is what will get the Steelers the division. :yuck:

Yes...perhaps by an even larger margin.

Looks like to me they tried to open it up against the Ravens and it nearly cost us the game. Granted, Ben was gimpy, but I think everyone on that team understands that the best way to win in Pittsburgh is to grind it out and play stout defense.

lol! so true! while the bengals get better they get worse at stopping the steelers. last year it took two 4th quarter come from behind wins by ben to beat the bengals twice...
next game ben may be sitting by half time

Also, I was just re-watching the Bengals game and the reason they lost that game is because they ditched the run.

The Bengals first two drives, Rudi Johnson was a beast. He had three runs for over ten yards that got first downs. Then they got behind and relied on the pass and that was it for 'em.

It's all about the balance.

the bengals achilles heal and their eventual drop this year will be the lack of ability to stop the run...

but yeah, I do think we could beat ya in the air, but it most likely wont happen.. we stick w/ what works 9-10 times.. maybe even 9.5 outta 10

Ben can beat teams with the pass.... He did earlier in the season... Chucking bombs all game, throwing 14 passes for over 220 yards.

We have guys that play the ball, just ask Favre our secondary finally takes the ball away form a future hall of famer and still gets no respect..........Some say the Bengals have the best DB's in the league, but I can't agree not with both the starting safties out....If Ben threw on us more then 11 times he would have had more then one pick.
The run is the reason we will lose I think we need to draft 2 DT's in the 1st and second rounds to help out.

We didn't need to be multi-dimensional against the Bungals, so we'll never know...but I think the majority have a pretty good suspicion as to how effective the passing game would have been, given that the running game was wide open...

I wouldn't try to change something that isn't broke. If we go to more of a passing game then we will get more pass coverages thrown at us????

I'd like to see a little more passing, especially in situations where the other teams KNOWS we're gonna run. It's like, we get 8 yards on first down, we know what we're gonna do for the next play. why not throw a pass and see if it goes anywhere? but then again, I wanna keep winning so lets let the coaches do what they must.
