This ones by Todd McShay

23. Pittsburgh Steelers -- Branden Albert, G, Virginia
Record: 10-6 | Needs: OC, OT, OG, DE (3-4), WR
Previous mock selection: Same
The Steelers are expected to invest multiple draft picks on offensive linemen. Albert is a massive guard with good feet and a finisher's mentality. Although most of his experience is at guard, he has the frame to give it a try at tackle if a team should so choose.

Thanks for the link Bettisfan.

As we get closer to the draft everyone seems to be of the belief that Brandon Albert will be the steelers first round pick. That means OT somewhere a bit later ( Barton or Zuttah in the 4th????)

I would be happy if it worked out that way.

The possibility of signing Hartwig at center might allow Mahan to go back to competing at guard, giving some healthy competition between Albert, Kemo, Simmons, and Colon. This scenario would certainly help the interior of the line recover from the loss of Faneca a little better than we all initially thought. Lets hope.

No doubt. I think I looked at 10 different mock drafts yesterday and they all have that. Most of them say " Lock this in for the Steelers" as their reasoning.

I've been seeing the same thing I don't think he would be a bad draft pick.

If the Steelers sign Hartwig and move Mahan to LG then the Steelers most likely will not draft Albert at 23rd and that means hopefuly that there will be an OT there for us like Cherilus or Williams.

If the Steelers sign Hartwig, the move Mahan to the backup LG or the waiver wire. Kemo gives you more at LG than Mahan.

Many project Albert at 6'7" 315 lbs and an all conference highschool basketball player as a LT in the NFL. Here is his profile.

An exciting blend of size and athletic ability, Albert emerged as a standout his freshman season and went on to start all 36 games for Virginia before leaving after his junior year. A former basketball player who has only played football since his junior year of high school, Albert has rare quickness for a man of his size to block at the second level, and features the size, strength and hand placement to generate movement at the point of attack. An all-conference selection each of the past three seasons, Albert will be graded by some teams as a tackle prospect after fairing well at left tackle in two starts due to injury to starter Eugene Monroe.

Basically he is a better athlete and run blocker than Williams, but Williams has more experience playing LT so far. Cherilus is a big powerful run blocker that struggled playing LT for BC this year because of a lack of quickness and will be a good RT, but not a LT.

If Albert is the pick, its with the belief that he can make the switch to Tackle, not play guard.
