Cleveland Browns look to rival Pittsburgh for pass rusher

Posted by Tony Grossi Plain Dealer Reporter March 18, 2008 19:47PM

Linebacker Clark Haggans, a mainstay pass rusher for the Pittsburgh Steelers the past four seasons, is the latest free agent to visit the Browns.

Haggans checked in on Tuesday and was to meet with team officials and coaches on Wednesday. The Browns are looking for a pass-rush complement to Kamerion Wimbley.

Haggans has spent his entire seven NFL seasons in Pittsburgh's 3-4 defense. As a starter the past four seasons, Haggans posted 25 sacks. He also had 6 1/2 as a situational rusher in 2002. Overall, Haggans had 32 1/2 sacks for the Steelers.

Haggans, 31, is being replaced on the Pittsburgh starting unit by either of the team's top two draft picks in 2007, Lawrence Timmons or LaMarr Woodley.

Jeff Sperbeck, Haggans' agent, confirmed the visit.

Its really a secret plan by the Steelers to continue to destroy the Browns.

See he goes there, and gets the money he knows he can't get with us, cause he is toward the end of his career, but as a True Steeler at heart, he thwarts them with his mind. "You guys aren't as good as my old team, no wonder we, I mean they, kicked your butt over and over again."

"wow, I didn't realize you guys were this bad"

"I never would have signed here had I known you were unworthy of my skills"

"I can't believe I'm with the Browns...I think I've died and gone to Hellll"

See, its all part of our secret plan to keep them down where they belong, in the NEVER been to a Superbowl Basement where they will dwell for all eternity!

Yes, the Dark Lord of the Sith is very very tricky.

all the clowns fans seem thrilled that he's visiting. although they're too dumb to realize that he got benched in the most important game of the season (playoffs vs jax), in favor of lamarr woodley who came in and instantly gave us a huge boost with 2 sacks.

say it aint so! Well he will end up at one of the teams we hate. So what is Clark's problem here? Not enough cash?

I dont think he will be a big deal there, he will play strongside LB and we all know that haggans is average if that at coverage, great tackler but average pass coverager(sweet word).

i think that if he does go to the browns they could make a nice pass rush from the outside with him and wimberly

Big deal, let him go to Cleveland.

Look at the history of our linebackers when they leave the Burgh, most never reach the production they had in Pittsburgh.

This will be a good pick-up for Cleveland. They'll have to overpay, of course, but they have the cash, and Haggins really knows the 3-4. Shows the difference between the two teams, though, since one teams trash will be another teams treasure...

This is just "great." Why the frigging Clowns of all the other 31 teams? Couldn't he go 2 some place like Jets, or even the Cardinals?

The Jets are broke after wildly overpaying for two Steelers in a row (Kimo and Faneca), neither of whom will be capable of playing out their contracts (well, Kimo is already retired, so...)

I don't see where they could have the money either like you said overpaid players.
