Did you know that the Steelers had the 9th highest total payroll in the NFL last season. And the Steelers had the highest median salary in the NFL? I didn't. I guess this lays to rest the myth that the Rooneys are cheap.

I don't want to hear another word about the Rooney's Being Cheap. :blah:

The only owner who is cheap in this town is the ol Bastid Bob Nutting. Though he has started to become less of one.

personally, i have never referred to the rooneys as cheap. the minor problem i had was with the stupid contracts they awarded to certain players for performing mediocre or below. like simmons or kordell for an example.

This must be the reason the cost of my tickets went up 17% this year. $70.00 per ticket per game.

Although I didn't have the "stats", I've always figured this was the case. The reason the Rooneys are thought of as "cheap", is that they will not break the bank on superstar players. They do however, spread the money wisely most of the time.

Yes, the Steelers gained more than $2 million in salary cap room.

As of yesterday, counting Wilson's Thursday release, the Steelers have $2.3 million in salary cap room.

Wilson was scheduled to earn a salary of $2,085,000 in 2008 but because it is not guaranteed, that money no longer has to be paid -- players receive their salaries during the regular season -- and the Steelers' salary cap was the immediate beneficiary.

Wilson will still count $500,000 against their salary cap for 2008 because that represents the pro-rated portion of the $2 million signing bonus he received when he joined them as an unrestricted free agent from the San Francisco 49ers in 2005.

The Rooneys are not cheap. They are prudent. There's a difference. They do not overpay for players talent.

That being said.... We should have had one of the most talented teams in the league. I think we're near the top. Certainly on defense. Offense is needing some retooling.

What's the latest on Willie Parker? When will he be ready to play?

Willie could have returned late in the 2007 season if he had broken his fibula earlier in the year.
The team compares Parker's injury to Chargers FB Lorenzo Neal's; Neal was able to return in a matter of weeks. Fast Willie returned to Pittsburgh January 15th to begin rehabbing. He should be good to go well before training camp.

Simmons has the bout with diabetes after the injury - an unforseen double whammy. I thought it showed some serious moral fortitude in not kicking him to the curb when his family was on the brink of collapse.

History the Rooney's have repeated more than once.

But again without the scrubs we'd be at 100% vacancy.

To point out everything that's absolutely wrong with this statement would probably take a couple of hours, so I'm not going to bother. :dang:

Rooney's are shrewd at their business, and their business (their ONLY business) is football. They have the TV revenue and stadium cash to spend, and now that they have it, they are spreading the wealth. It's a recurring theme that many Steelers fans are borderline retarded that we are even still having to discuss the absolutely absurd notion that the Rooney's are cheap.

Don't forget about Troy P. And a reason we are close to the cap, we have restructured so many contracts in the past, it is catching up to us now.
