Even the Hawks' Mike Bibby can see Boston fans for what they are....

Mike Bibby thought the Celtics’ crowd was loud in the playoff opener. He should get an even bigger earful in Game 2 after slamming the fans.

Bibby called Boston’s backers “fair weather” fans who jumped on the “bandwagon” when the Celtics grew from one of the NBA’s worst teams last season into the one with the best record in the league this season.

“I wouldn’t say it’s the smartest comment,” Kevin Garnett said Tuesday.

Bibby calls out bandwagon Bostonians (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/preview;_ylt=AgIE2ssxg94pmB0Pk2oVpfi8vLYF?gid=2008 042302&prov=ap)

Maybe not, KG, but it sure as hell is accurate.

Yeah, not the smartest comment, but it happens to be true.

If there has been a team Boston fans have truly cared about, it's the Red Sox. Boston is and always will be a baseball town.

The Patriots didn't exist until 2000, The Bruins didn't exist in forever, and the Celtics became irrelevant once Bird left.

Well come on now, be fair, the Bruins fans are pretty loyal, and the Celtics fans are finally getting to cheer for a good product after years of dominating turned into years of mediocrity. Celtics in the 80s were like the Steelers of the 70s. And after a decade or more of not getting it done, they finally have something to cheer for again.

The Bruins haven't had a good product in a while, but I wouldn't call their fans bandwagon. Captials fans, yeah, but not the Bruins.

as a proud bostoinian I can personally attest that this town is a RED SOX town but the fans of the sox' s can be fairweather fans but they have a loyal core. now the Bruin's are the team with the most die hard fans in town, they/we are loyal to a fault and might be a small group but we are loyal to the team . not sure why but we are

Not so hot, but at least they weren't still being ignored and forced to play second fiddle to a frigging hockey team even after winning 11 championships in a 13-year span. The Celtics of the '60s were an afterthought in their own town, which further drives the point of the original post home, doesn't it? :coffee:

I think it was the same guy because the Pats and Steelers ownership are linked somehow. I don't know why we need a mascot. We already have 10 minutemen at either end of the field firing blank rounds into the crowd after every touchdown. Anything after that seems a little bit excessive.

I'd shoot steely mcbeam just because of his name. That's not even clever. They didn't even try.

Yeah, I was at the riot in 2004. It was the police's fault.

If it was already a riot, then it cannot be the fault of the Police. Also, people cannot be allowed to "jump up and down" on other folks cars, etc. Lets look at the textbook and legal definitions of "Riot:"

Textbook: a noisy, violent public disorder caused by a group or crowd of persons, as by a crowd protesting against another group, a government policy, etc., in the streets. violent or wild disorder or confusion. unrestrained revelry.

Legal: a disturbance of the public peace by three or more persons acting together in a disrupting and tumultuous manner in carrying out their private purposes.

Historically, when a riot has occured that police failed to respond to it, the lasted for days, costs many, many lives and billions in damages (See The Five Points of NYC -19th century). That's just one example.

Now if you want to call it a celebration, then I will refute that too by saying the celebration for that event was held a few days later in the form a parade. I do not believe there was any damage or deaths as a result.

I'm not saying that Police never have/never will handle it incorrectly, but they must respond. Riots can "snowball" get out of hand real quick. If what you say is accurate then the Boston PD may have screwed up executing thier initiative. Could be poor training, bad orders/judgement or perhaps you simply didn't see what led to that chain of events.

Wasn't there a celebratory sports riot in Chicago a few years ago where the police responded lightly and there was still a heap of damage done. Boston may have used that as a model and chose to disperse the crowd first and foremost and by any means. Who knows.

Even the Hawks' Mike Bibby can see Boston fans for what they are....

Maybe not, KG, but it sure as hell is accurate.

All very true, but isn't a player from an Atlanta team calling out another team's fans the definition of the pot calling the kettle black?

You know what, let's just go back to talking about yellow things.

All of our duckboats have names by the way.

Boston = whiny complaining fans with an inferiority complex to N.Y.

Pittsburgh= tough as nails fans that uses another city (Cleveland) as its mascot.

Well first off, this is the STEELERS forum (you know, football?). And there is no NBA team in Pittsburgh so let's not compare apples and oranges. Just FB.

Patriots = 6 SB appearances with a 3*-3 record. That's 50% WP....not bad.
Steelers = 6 SB appearances with a 5-1 record. That's an 83% WP.

Advantage - Steelers.

Wanna discuss Playoff Appearances? Wanna?

*Patriots are under investigation for cheating during these SB runs. Steelers are not.

Pittsburgh = Football town.
Boston = Bandwagon-Cheatsville.
