Herd Center offered deal by Pittsburgh.
Story by Jared Fialko

HUNTINGTON -- Doug Legursky's name wasn't one of the 252 called in this weekend's NFL Draft.

But that hardly means the big man from Beckley doesn't have a future in the bigs.

The Marshall powerhouse center's phone ringing several times before, during, and after the draft.

The Pittsburgh Steelers were on the other end.

Legursky telling 13 News that he has been offered a three-year free agency deal by the Steelers.

He's expected to sign the contract sometime on Monday.

The Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots also expressed interest.

Legursky appeared in every game during his four-year career at Marshall (2004-'07).

He played extensively as a true freshman, then made 35 consecutive starts over the next three seasons to close out his college career.

Great. Could be interesting to see how he fits in.

He was the largest of the OC's in the draft and knows where the weight room is. He is probably built to handle NT's but maybe not the best of feet.

I'd love to see him make the team or at least the PS.

I'm originally from Huntington and follow Marshall. This kid projects as a guard. He runs a 4.75 40 and is strong as an ox. Mark my words, he'll be in the rotation next year. This is a great signing.

I know many mock drafts had the Steelers taking him in the late rounds.

I'll believe it when I see it officially. This was one of LLT's sleeper picks and here is the info from his pro day.

OK, I guess it is official. Reported in the paper.

After signing his contract, Legursky will report to rookie mini-camp Friday in Pittsburgh. After maintaining even keel under the NFL microscope for months, Legursky finally exhaled on Sunday.

“I’m just so excited and relieved that this whole hectic thing is over,” said Legursky, who will report to rookie mini-camp in Pittsburgh later this week. “I’m ready to go to work.”

Right now they’re looking at me more as a guard and a backup center going in,” Legursky said. “I’m going to be working hard to earn the respect of the veterans and coaches and find my way to the top.”

Doug Legursky was my favorite center in this draft...It was a weak class no doubt but in my opinion there wasn't much drop off from the top centers in this draft to Legursky...Center class will be stronger next year...But I hope Doug makes the team if he is signed...

I like it. Another body to fight for a position on our oline. The more I am reading stuff about the signings and the stuff the coaching staff says about the guys we already have, the more excited I am about the draft and the upcoming season.

How many days is it til kickoff? It can't come soon enough.

Legursky is the only guy with any type of a shot to make the team. Of course, any of them but the kicker could make the P.S.

Funny, if we would have drafted Legursky in the 5th round (which would have been a reach), I think many fans would have been happier with our over all draft because we 'addressed our needs' by selected two linemen. Make ya kind of wonder ....

I am still waiting for the all the horses I backed to cross the finish line.

Seriously LLT some of the picks we have been pimpin on this board have fallen way out of the ranges that we all thought that they would go.

I thought Legursky would get taken at least in the 7th. Dykes, J Lehman and other guys fell well short.

Like you I am happy that he got picked up.:tt02:
