Well, this draft is over and I, for one, am pretty happy with the way it went, but I already have my eyes set on next year.

I think I am going to watch as meny LSU games as I can, partly because I like LSU, and partly because there are a few players that I think the Steelers would be interested in next year.

OT Ciron Black JR.
OG Herman Johnson Sr.
DE Tyson Jackson Sr.
DT Al Woods Jr
DT Marlon Favorite Sr

I know that Jackson and Woods, if he comes out, would probably be out of the Steelers reach but who know.

Just wondering, are there any players any of you are going to be watching closely next year?

The NFL draft is year round event for me so it never ends for me and so I'm with you in keeping tabs for next year......Nice thoughts on LSU and I agree....Especially Jackson....He is the perfect 3-4 DE....which in my opinion Phillip Merling, Balmer and Campbell were not and really wasn't that disappointed that the Steelers didn't end up with any of those three...

I do not follow college ball to close but are they going to be alot of offensive and deffensive lineman coming out for the draft.

Tyson Jackson would have been a guaranteed first round pick this year. A consistent season will see him move into the top 15 next year. Out of our range more than likely.

A big time 3-4 DE needs to be found in rounds 1 or 2 next year. Apart from Tyson Jackson who else appears to fit that description for 2009?

I think that the OTs next year may be a little better than this year. Some of the names that you might watch for.
Michael Oher Sr. Ole Miss 325 lb. We won't even get close to this one.
Andre Smith Jr. Alabama 330 lb. See above.
Phil Loadholt Sr. Oklahoma 350 lb. This one we may have a shot at.
Ciron Black Jr. LSU 315 lb. I like this kid if he comes out.
Alex Boone Sr. Ohio St. 325 lb. Right now our best bet where I thing we will be.

Throw in Unger, Oregon, and Gardner, Georgia Tech, who I think are zone blockers and there are a few to watch.

OG
Duke Robinson Sr. 330 lb. Oklahoma.
Jerry Parry Sr. 324 lb. Oregon St.
Harmon Johnson Sr. 350 lb. LSU
Cedric Dockery Sr. 320 lb. Texas. If this kids ACL is sound, could be one to watch

DE
Lawrence Wilson Sr. 280 lb. Ohio St.
Derek Walder Sr. 275 lb. Illinois.
Mitch King Sr. 270 lb Iowa
I only listed the kids I thought might play DE for us.

DT
Fili Moala Jr. 295 lb. USC. Won't make it to us.
Derrick Marks Jr 290 lb. Auburn. See above.
Players that are most interesting to me because I think we may have a shot at them.
Roy Miller Sr. 290 lb. Texas. Very quick
Jason Chapman Sr. 290 lb. Wisconson. Very quick

There are plenty others to watch, LLT can probably list twice this meny. Its going to be an intresting year.

It looks like the DT class of 2009 contains some tall timber that could be suited to the 3-4 DE transition. There seems to be more prospects with the prototypical size much like Kendall Langford had this year.

If I had my choice I would love Sen'Derrick Marks from Auburn, but if he does come out I don't think we would have a chance at him. So we may want to watch the kids in the Demonte Bolden, Roy Miller range, there are about 6 or 7 of them.

The DT I was trying to remember is Jeff Owens form Georgia. This kid is one to keep an eye on.

Two players I will try to track from afar will be two candidates for the center position which I think will need to be addressed next year.

1. Alex Mack, California Height: 6-5. Weight: 300.
2.Jonathan Luigs, Arkansas Height: 6-4. Weight: 305.

As far as DE I think I will be watching

1.Tyson Jackson, LSU Height: 6-5. Weight: 292.
2. Nader Abdallah, Ohio State Height: 6-5. Weight: 310.
3. Pannel Egboh, Stanford Height: 6-6. Weight: 282. (my sleeper)

I cant watch any games so I will only be tracking stats and press reports.
As a result of tracking the entire draft period online this year for the first time (and loved it) I believe that I will be tracking the college game more to look for prospects earlier. I thinked I am officially hooked.

This is what makes the offseason what it is... the OFFseason.
I am gonna try to keep informed a little better this college season as well. Now, that I am back to doing construction work and not having to work any weekends, that means more college football for me. I think by next year that the Steelers will really be having to look for OT's more seriously. Marvell Smith will be gone unless he takes a big pay cut and we only signed Starks to a 1 year contract so, there will be work to do next offseason.

Just a few names for you to kick around for the next years draft.

1st. Jeff Owens DT/DE Georgia. 296lb, 6'3" 4.95 / 40, very very strong, and quick. Can play DE for us, no problem.

2nd. Dallas Reynolds OT BYU. 325lb, 6' 5" 5.10 / 40, Quick feet for a 325lb, Solid blocker, could end up our LT. Very steady and reliable, I don't think he has missed a game his collage life.

I am hoping that we can get a 3rd and a 4th comp. pick and can trade our 3rd and 4th to move up.
3rd. Terrance Taylor NT Michigan. 320lb, 6'0" 5.00 / 40, Agine strong and solid in the middle. Much better aginst the run, than pass rush, but will clog the middle and help set loose our DEs.

3rd Comp. Mark Person CB Ohio. 195lb. 5'10" 4.38 / 40, Fast and very good man to man coverage, will make a WR pay after that catch, if he catches it. I have only seen vidio on Person, I have not seen him play.

Right now I think that all these could be had in the rounds mentions, this could change, and would fill a need for us, this could change also.

Man I can't wait for the season to get here so we can start watching these kids.
