LOS ANGELES (AP) - A former associate of USC (http://msn.foxsports.com/cbk/team/71635) freshman guard O.J. Mayo claims the basketball star received thousands of dollars in cash and other gifts from an event promoter over the past four years that would violate NCAA rules, ESPN reported Sunday.

Louis Johnson told ESPN's "Outside the Lines," that Rodney Guillory, a Los Angeles-based event promoter, gave Mayo about $30,000 and other benefits while he attended high school and his sole season at USC (http://msn.foxsports.com/cbk/team/71635). Mayo has decided to forgo his sophomore year and enter the NBA draft.

but yet when mayo went to usc 4 his freshman yr.. the NCAA, the PAC-10 and USC. did investigate his life from his jr/sr yr into the yr he played 4 usc.. and if they couldn't find anything on him then i would have to lean towards the fact he didn't receive anything..

they should say that they are gonna do another investigation on mayo...
the first one was only to see if he was eligible to attend USC. it wasnt regarding his financial status.

well not rly TMB.. they might of done that to see if he was eligble but it was in fact to see if there was any money invovled.. b/c the choices were between florida, usc and k-sate and i beleive that usc was the most unvisited between the 3 and they wanted to see if there was money invovled

according to espn it was to see if he was eligible to play. nothing to do with money.

Saying the NCAA has "new information," president Myles Brand promised to investigate former Southern California (http://msn.foxsports.com/cbk/team/71635) basketball star O.J. Mayo, who allegedly received thousands of dollars in gifts from money given to an event promoter by a sports agency.

Why am I not surprised?

Why attend USC when you could have gone to powerhouse Florida?

The football program has agents hanging all around it.

If this does turn out to be true, the NCAA better put a major punishment on USC.

they will not do that. USC makes too much money for them to give them major punishment. but you know if some small school did it, they would probably give them the death penalty, like they did to SMU i believe. when they made them disban their team.
