ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -- Redskins running back Clinton Portis and safety Sean Taylor were fined by the NFL on Thursday for uniform violations in last Sunday night's game against Philadelphia.

Portis was fined $20,000 for wearing black shoes, which did not match the rest of the team, and also for wearing striped socks and an unapproved eye shield. Taylor was hit for $5,000 for the striped socks.

The burgundy and gold striping made the socks look like barber shop polls. Taylor had them on both legs, Portis on one.

Last year, both were fined twice for socks violations, the first time $5,000 apiece and the second time $10,000.

To them, though, it's worth it. That's like fining one of us $2.

Well they deserved it for playing for the Redskins and not dressing like the team. I know my coach issued out shit and said we were gonna dress the same. If we didnt we had to run alot so im sure its not just the NFL its like this in high school and college

It seems silly to fine someone over the wrong color socks. But I can understand the league's reasons. If they don't make uniform rules, players could turn into walking billboards.

Exactly!!

With no dress code there would be those players who would be "accessorizing" or "deleting" their uniforms with all kind of ridiculous stuff.

I don't think it's too much to ask a professional athlete to adhere to a uniform regulation.

I think they did the right thing. As Pitt said they would come out wearing whatever they wanted if there was no dress code.

I don't get the point of Fining Players For Their Uniform Being Messed up
That's a stupid policy.

I think it's stupid to fine for shoes and the visor, but I understand the socks...the socks are part of a UNIFORM.

The football coach at my high school always said, "you want indivdualality, you have your number."
