For a completely unproven QB - makes the $36 mil guaranteed the Steelers gave Ben look that much more like a wise investment.

Well, I hope for the Falcons' sake and their fans (Vick was not THEIR fault, he was Blanks') that Ryan works out. They could use some good fortune for a change.

Dayum! Thats 12 mill a year! More than Big Ben? I think Ben's proven that he's going to be great, but that's such a bargain with Ryan.

There REALLY needs to be a salary cap for rookie contracts. It's going to get higher and higher each year. The Falcons better hope Ryan pans out. What a stupid gamble, but then again, what can you expect from a franchise that hasn't had back to back winning seasons in it's whole history?

If you're going to be paid that kind of money, you better start and contribute right away.

That ... is way too much money.

Even if you're a top-5 pick, there's really only a 50-50 chance you'll ever be a good player in the pros. It's f***ing ridiculous to be throwing that kind of money around on draft picks.

And probably one of the reasons why a lot of bad teams stay bad. If your record is bad enough to get the top pick, you have to bet the franchise on whoever's available that year. I'd much rather have a pick somewhere around #10-15 every year.

I like Ryan a lot. I hope he becomes a good player :)

I just don't see that kind of money in someone that isn't proven in the nfl.

I dont know what's more sad.. Rookie contracts or gas prices...

Definitely gas prices. I live in the Bay Area, and the 49ers and Raiders can both suck just as bad as they want without costing me a couple hundred bucks a month.

His gauranteed money is almost as much as our Super Bowl winning QB's......and that's bullcrap.

They need a rookie cap, because a lot of these guys won't be worth the contracts they signed.

This is why we wont have an nfl season in 2012

What, Ryan Leaf wasn't worth 4 years and $31 million?

In football terms he wasn't...but in blowouts with the media terms he was worth every freaking penny.

I think Blank's misunderstanding of the CBA made this happen.

Blank was concerned about the rule regarding a 30% increase in player's salaries, but it doesn't apply to rookie contracts.

I think Blank and Matt Millen should team up, they'd make a perfect pair.
