Mendenhall making a positive impression in Pittsburgh (http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/NFL/AFC/AFC+North/Pittsburgh/WWHI/2008/wwhi052908.htm)

May 29, 2008

The way we hear it, Steelers rookie RB Rashard Mendenhall looks as though he will be a solid fit in Bruce Arians' offense. Mendenhall has caught the ball well in his brief Steelers career, and he's also shown the speed that helped make him such a well-regarded prospect. Mendenhall and probable third-down back Mewelde Moore are likely to be the first backs off the bench for Pittsburgh, which will have a more versatile backfield than it did a season ago. Mendenhall, who is healthy again after suffering a hamstring injury early in May, will primarily play the role of keeping starter Willie Parker fresh. At the NFL Players Rookie Premiere, Mendenhall told PFW he can learn a lot from the productive Parker simply by "seeing how he works every day, just his attitude about everything. I learned that when I got there, and I just feel like Iím picking up a lot just being under him."

* Steelers LOLB LaMarr Woodley appears poised to build off a strong finish to last season, the way we hear it. Woodley has stood out in organized team activities. (http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/The+Way+We+Hear+It/Whispers/2008/whispers053108.htm)

i read a report that said russell has put on 10 extra pounds and has not lost any speed. he is having a good camp so far.

the good thing about that is if mendenhall holds out. his agnet has no leverage. there is no pressure in signing him.

i think moore will be the main return specialist.

I hope that your right steeldude. I love the fact that Rashard is back and participating at camp, that is a big relief to me. I hope that Limas Sweeds' hand or wrist is also doing very well.... oh.. thats right, he cant participate again until school is out at Texas right?

Sweed graduated last December, so he should be OK to practice.

I read the same thing, Steeldude. That's why I think Dookie gets the axe, and Russell stays as the 5th (yes 5th) RB. Russell also played extremely well on STs last preseason and in spot duty against the Jags in the playoff game. With RushHard probably being able to handle 3rd down duties in the future, Moore will probably only be around until the return game is straightened out. Next season they could trim the RBs down to 4, but for this season we should keep Russell. Just my opinion.

It's great to hear what we all know already, we've got two special players in RushHard and Woodley!!

I think we definitely keep russell as well. This guy was about to explode at minny before all his troubles. Not to mention he backed up Lawrence maroney and Marion the barbarian.

Davenport is about beat. 53 yards on 26 carries in a playoff game will do that to a guy.

If we can find ANY competent returner other than moore, i don't see him sticking around much past maybe this year or the next as well.

as long as he learns enough to participate on ST im satisfied...

mendenhall gives us an entirely new dimension and i see him having 30+ catches this season if all goes well...

I don't think that is going to cut it in the nfl.:toofunny:
