Kevin Jones Signs With the Bears
by WCG on Jul 15, 2008 12:45 PM CDT

The NFL Network is reporting that Kevin Jones has agreed to terms with the Chicago Bears.

Terms of the deal are undisclosed.

Jones will receive a one-year deal for the league minimum and hope he has an opportunity to show what he can do.

Kevin Jones was a 1st round draft pick of the Detroit Lions in the 2004 NFL Draft. He was the 30th selection and is out of Vriginia Tech.

Realistically Jones could find himself as the backup by the time the regular season rolls around. If the Bears like the idea of keeping Adrian Peterson in his special teams roll and Garrett Wolfe proves he is just a situation back, we will need a full time guy to spell Matt Forte or step in if an injury occurs.

Not a bad fit. He should get some opportunities in that backfield.

I still think that Forte is a solid stud andif the Bears fix their line woes, he will be a huge surprise.... But its good to have a Vet as an insurance policy

He'll have a much better chance to play in Chicago. Best of luck to Jones and hopefully he can stay healthy.

After a bit of posturing and self promotion, looks like Jones figured out his value this year was not nearly as high as he thought it would be, signing for the league minimum. Jones can let Forte get the bulk of the carries early, and when he's at full strength - and Forte starts to tire - he can pick up a larger portion of the work. Then with a one year deal, he can get his payday next year.

Players like Daunte Culpepper and Shaun Alexander might want to take notice and take whatever they can get. Waiting for a desperate team to overpay doesn't seem to be a very good game plan for these free agents.

I'm glad his new team is not the Steelers. They were wasting their time just interviewing him.

I don't think it was a waste of time, we were simply rounding all our bases.

Best of luck to Kevin on his new team. I'm no Bears fan by a long shot, but I'll be rooting for him nonetheless. :drink:

Hopefully he can go to chicago and help them produce and get some carries he will be better off on chicago we just didn't have the room for him unless it was on special teams.

Better to play I think then be a guy that was gonna get cut in camp with us. Plus he can rub it in the Lions face twice a year.

He ran for 143 yards and two TD's against the Bears last year as a Lion....I can see why they would rather see him in a Bears uniform.

I wouldn't have minded signing him at the league minimum for one year.
