WooooHooooo.....I'm off to North Pole, Alaska for the next week and a half. Leave at the butt crack of dawn Friday morning, I should be up there around 3:30 in the after noon. Just in time for my buddy to pick me up and get some :fishing: in. Hope I catch some bis a$$ fish. I think he said the kings are runnin. Then I guess he has a little puddle jumper lined up to take us out somewhere in the sticks to do some more :fishing: after king fishing. :sofunny:

I'm just hoping the bears will be to busy fishin to notice us. But I told my friend its a good thing I can run faster than him, they always eat the slow one first. :chuckle:

Oh yeah, before I forget to say it before I leave.

The Bungals suck.

Are you taking some protection from bears. A lever action 450 marlin or .444 wouldn't hurt. Best would be a very large can of Capsicum pepper spray. here is an example bear pepper spray (http://www.pepper-spray-store.com/large-pepper-sprays.shtml)

I also hope you know to hang your food at least 17 feet high between trees and prepare it at least 100 feet from where your camping. I have done fly in fishing and have been approached by bears in my younger days. It is hair raising if your not prepared. Remember you can not outrun a bear, neither can an olympic sprinter.

But have fun and catch all you can. post some pics when you get back and tell us about the trip.

Have a great time, Mach! I'm jealous - it's been almost 8 years since the last time I went up there to fish. Best fishing in the world, without a doubt. :fishing:

Yeah my friend has a pair of S&W 50 cal. Magnums. Hopefully they wont be needed, but you never know. They should be enough to slow em down IF needed. I do know they can out run a race horse in the first half mile or so. The only way a person can attempt to out run one is if your on a mountain. Head straight down, bears have a harder time running down hill. Their back legs are longer than the front, so it slows down a little trying not to face plant.

S&W MAG> 50. CAL (http://www.shootingtimes.com/handgun_reviews/monster_1103/)

And we know about storing food stuff and game.

Also gotta try out some of that midnight golfing if I get time.

I'll post some pics when I get back.

In the mean time I've meet 8-9 Steeler fans up here. Its safe to say Steeler Nation is alive and well here.

Boy, Can I pick the perfect time to go on vacation. Its done nothing but rain here. From Mon. to Wed. we had 4" of rain in 3 days. The rivers are all flooding and wouldn't ya know it, its the biggest flood since 1967. Not much fishin going on here.

OK. Here are some pics of our trip. I don't have any more fish pics as the flood kinda messed that up for us.

This was the first stop to appease the kid. The Santa Clause House in North Pole. The only day that it didn't rain.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/bcrab/scan0003-1.jpg

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/bcrab/scan0004-1.jpg

Next stop that day. The Knotty shop and some of the local wildlife.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/bcrab/scan0002-1.jpg

The museum at U of AK. My boy just had to get his pic taken with Rudolph. :chuckle:

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/bcrab/scan0001-1.jpg

My friend and I are pretending we know how to gold pan, in the rain. I'm the dork in blue.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/bcrab/scan0009-1.jpg

This is how much it flooded. See the land for sale sign in the water.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/bcrab/scan0005-1.jpg

More of the flood. These pics were taken about 11:30 pm. Thats as dark as it got.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/bcrab/scan0006-1.jpg

Of course gotta get one of the pipeline.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w11/bcrab/scan0007-1.jpg

Finally, This was across the side street of where we stayed. They bare it all, but my friends old lady wouldn't allow him to cross the street in that general direction. :banging:

Sorry for the small crappy pics. I had to scan them, we used disposable cameras for this one.
