He had a game in 04 against the Jags where he had two returns for TD's.

Sure could have used him last year.......Too little too late....???

I think that is part of it...I think he was misused with his former team and that he will look good in the Black N' Gold:laughing:

Isn't that also a part of the equation?

Steelers sign Pittsburgh native Drummond

The Steelers signed kick return specialist and Pittsburgh native Eddie Drummond today at St. Vincent.

Drummond had a tryout in the morning, then was signed and participated in practice in the afternoon.

Drummond returned kickoffs and punts for the Chiefs last season and averaged 21.2 yards per kick return and 6.9 yards per punt return.

Honestly, I think Drummond is going to be a nice addition. Steady KR with big play ability! He's probably thrilled to be on a decent team for once in his career!

OK, my thought that Jeremy Bloom would emerge as the KR has now changed.

Ed-die! Ed-die! Ed-die!!

One the one hand we are only getting a dude that returned punts an average of 6 yards last year and who has been on the decline the last 2 years.

On the other hand looks like we are getting rid of a dude who has a career receiving yardage total of 54 yards.

From what everyone is saying from camp...

don't be surprised if it ISNT Reid that is on the way out.

Who knows... I sure don't.

guy was real good in 2004 with 4 return td's but hasn't really done anything since (0 td's since then)...but did you know he's never fumbled? lol

To me, I think this makes sense from the standpoint of kicking our current group of returners up the back side and saying, "Focus and do well, or you're gone". The more competition there is the better, which I do not mind in the least. However, Drummond's past track record is just that, the past, and, in my opinion, he will not help us in the return game because his recent history does not offer any evidence of productivity..

Maybe not, but our recent history offers evidence of less than zero productivity. When we ditched Rossum, I was worried we had lost a guy that at least didn't fumble and knew which direction to run (which was a huge improvement over '06 and even parts of '05). Drummond is that same kind of guy, only four years younger.

In a typical Steelers FO move, they made a dumb move of releasing Rossum into a smart pickup in Drummond. Colbert and crew are making it hard to doubt them.

Yeah, we should cut both Willie Reid and Jermey Bloom.

Drummond was one tough SOB at Penn State. I'm hoping to see him flourish even further with the Steelers.

He was only on the active roster for 7 games in two years and then only in as the 4th receiver. I don't recall him having pass drops etc. to think he's not that good. As a returner I think he's a bust though.

Yeah, we should cut both Willie Reid and Jermey Bloom.

I think those three will be in competition for the KR / 5th receiver spot. Or would we carry 6 WR this year if one of them is mainly a returner? Rossum was listed as a CB.

Baker might be able to stay under the radar on the practice quad again.

I think there is a possiblity that again we keep a Punt return Specialist.

The 5wr's will be Ward, Holmes, Washington, Sweed, (probably Baker) and either Bloom, Reid, Drummond as the returner.

Gotta ask yourself though...if nobody wanted Drummond when camps opened....does he really have anything left??

While that's a good question generally, I think the more valid statement would be, "Is he better than what we've got?" In other words, yes. I don't think Reid will ever pan out to be a good KR in the NFL, and the only place he'll earn a roster spot is at pure WR. Moore returns kicks, yes, but he's by no means flashy, just capable. Mendenhall, I have no idea, but the very sound of it gives me goosebumps... And Jeremy Bloom? Who knows?

Unless someone explodes in camp, I wouldn't mind at all seeing Drummond returning kicks. He doesn't fumble, and he's better than what we've had last year or the year before, or the year before...or...

I think it's a good signing. If he doesn't turn out, no big loss on the organization's part. The FO pretty much knows what they're doing. :wink02:

I don't think it will hurt to have the depth at the position who knows what might happen like someone said if he don't pan out then what have we lost unlike rossum we gave up a draft pick.

To replace Dookie, of course. :chuckle: A third down back with the "flexibility" to return kicks.
The ability to take on multiple roles on a roster is a premium with a 53 man max. Although he is considered an option for returns, I don't think he knocked anyones socks off. Drummond is just an option to stir competition.

Holmes
Ward
Washington
Sweed - possibly 3 after a few weeks.
Drummond? Reid seems to be getting a little chippy in TC. I think he knows his time is near the end...On this team anyway.

I think we only keep 5, with 4 active game day. We need more depth elsewhere.imo.
