Sorry, no link-

DENTON, Texas -- Denton police say a child was able to sneak out of his day-care center without anyone noticing and take a perilous walk that ended at a Hooters restaurant.

The 5-year-old boy reportedly walked out of the Imagination Station day care in the 2300 block of San Jacinto Boulevard on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said he walked a long way in 100-degree heat crossing at least two busy streets.

He went to a Pep Boys, where he swiped some gum, according to a store worker. The boy then hiked to a RaceTrac gas station where he stole a soda, according to investigators.

His walk then led to a Hooters restaurant where employees gave him a coloring book and soda pop to drink and called police.

The child was not hurt and he was released to his father.

Imagination Station would not comment on the situation.

According to the Department of Family and Protective Services, the day care has had several violations including one in April in which inspectors determined that staff was not properly supervising the children.

The state agency is now investigating this case.

You just don't see that kind of resourcefulness in 5 y/o's anymore.

I remember hopping the fence at Kindercare when I was little (hated that place), but I never thought of going to Hooters..., Brilliant!

Was he remembering "Save the Ta Taas.org" or just going to have a flash back?

Geeze, no wonder some teenagers are so screwed up these days. If they're not taught young about certain actions being (in)appropriate, it won't stick with them later. (I fortunately was taught young)

Your not Texan.

Nope. It was 1970's NJ..., there were no Hooters establishments around.

Hey kid - if you're gonna do some thieving at a Pep Boys, go for the stereo speakers or auto parts and forget the gum - you could've pocketed that at the Race Trac station. :chuckle:

In all seriousness, though - that daycare center needs to be shut down considering they've already had numerous violations. Our kids are too damned important to be cared for by incompetent boobs.

I just read another horror story from Ohio where a day care left a 7 month in the building, locked up for the night and when the Police called to be let in they were hung up on twice and it took hours. The baby was left for like 9hrs without food, water, or a diaper change. Obviously, these folks are in a heap of trouble, but what I don't get is why the cops wouldn't break the door down if there was even a hint that the child would be in the building???
