True, but bringing in Pennington won't help your team much either. He's a bit fragile and has a week arm...maybe you could get Testaverde out of retirement? lol

Texasteel
08-08-2008, 08:13 PM
Early yet but I was impressed be the starting OL, looks like they think they need to prove something. Pass rush looked poor overall but thats not suprizing this early, and looked to be picking up a little steam. We have some very large WRs, but the Steelers will still be a running team. The LBers is probably the strongs position on this team, excluding QB ofcorse.

That depends on whether it was the right or left. If it's the left, he might be able to be come back by W4. If it's his throwing arm, Pittsburgh will possibly put him on the IR for the season...as he won't likely be back before the IR deadline.

The thought of Dixon as our starting QB is absolutely frightening....no matter what year it is.

Ed.B. of the P-G agrees with you - he posted this pregame on the P-G this evening

Rookie quarterback Dennis Dixon was a Heisman Trophy candidate at Oregon until his ACL was torn, ending his season and his chances at the trophy.

The Steelers drafted him in the fifth round, figuring they had the luxury of having two veteran quarterbacks and could have patience with Dixon as he developed.

It will take even more patience, perhaps, than they thought. Dixon has not looked good in camp, most prominently when he throws the football. He’s inaccurate, throwing behind and low to receivers and often to a defensive player. Tomlin mentioned as much last week.

Brian St. Pierre left as an unrestricted free agent and signed with the Arizona Cardinals, even though the Steelers told him he’d have a chance at replacing Charlie Batch as the No. 2 quarterback, if not this year then next. They drafted Dixon to possibly be that man.

There’s no guarantee, however, that Dixon will make the 53-man roster. He could go on the practice squad and still be third on the depth chart, which is what St. Pierre did several times.

The Steelers would risk another team claiming him off waivers, but the way he’s looked in practice, it might not be a big risk.:banging:

http://community.post-gazette.com/blogs/blogngold/default.aspx

Should have figured St. Pierre went to the Cardinals (so he can hold the clipboard behind Warner & Leinart? - another shrewd career move there)

millwalldavey
08-08-2008, 08:30 PM

Pennington might be a good fit here.. just an idea though

Jets would want a mid-round draft choice - if Ben goes down the season is screwed regardless - with the holes this team will need to fill in 2008, trading away draft choices (or trading up to draft punters or burning picks on QB "projects") is not the way to go

Oops - he was released - my bad
