Sounds like some starters are still in - next week is the last game the starters will play preseason and that game with the Vikes is national so I can watch it:thumbsup:

You can watch it streamed online here: http://xssports.rack111.com/

And THAT game is the one where we start watching what the o and d do. Because if I remember right, the 3rd game is usually the one that is schemed to a certain degree.

That means we have 2 YOUNG LB's and one in his prime.. that is a good place to build from.

So the million dollar question here is...

Arians is so eager to do a three step drop with Dixon, why can't he do that playcalling with Ben? The offensive line is incapable of holding blocks on five step drops. Why not try three-step drops instead?

St33lersguy

Larry Foote isn't a star, but he's consistent. I'll give him this, he doesn't disappear for games at at time. He's always in the middle of things. Give Larry Foote, Kendrell Bell's body, and we have a Pro Bowler every year.

Dennis Dixon put out a much better performance tonight. Too bad the rest of the team went to sleep. Oh well, it's preseason.

Once again, we lose another game that could've been negated by taking away that punt return TD. Bob Ligashevsky is a moron.

Leftwich is a veteran, Dixon is not. It's important that we have Leftwich as a backup. If Leftwich had touch, he wouldn't be a backup.

I still havent seen the game yet, so will reserve judgement until then.

I said after the draft that while I like how Ligashesky coaches....his teams have not been successful in the past. He was a ST assistant with the Jags, then ST coach with the Rams (where their ST sucked!!) and his first season with the Steelers wasnt impressive.

He is starting to make former ST coach Jay Hayes look good. I got a bad feeling that the Special Teams will be a weakness again and Ligs will not be around in '09.

I find it funny that some people totally over react during pre-season...I'm all for fans being negative at times...Since I can be at times also...But never during pre-season....lol

Really who cares what the out come is....I just care about no injuries...Looks like the Steelers accomplished that....

I agree the defense looked spotty in their tackling....But hey when the bullets fly for real then I'm sure we will see better performance out of this unit....Only concerns is Ryan Clark since he did have a serious condition last year...He looked weak tonight....I'm not knocking since he could have died last year...But I just wonder if he will ever be the same player...He was a good football player.....Plus I'm sure that was vanilla defense out there...

The starting offense looked fine...Except for the penalties...But hey thats what pre-season is for.......Ben was sharp....9/11 for over 140 yards with a TD and tipped INT....Big Ben2Holmes=6 all season.....I'm calling it now Ben throws 40 TD passes this year.....I called 30 last year....lol

Timmons had a solid night.....His strengths are blitzing, coverage and playing in space...He still needs to improve in shedding blocks...If not then he will struggle in run defense...

I'm thirding that.

He's a bust as a returner, and he's a bust as a reciever too. The Steelers will have to go with Baker as the 5th reciever. He's definately shown more in the recieving department.

If you remember the tackling went to hell the last few games last year. With what I saw tonight I am a little concerned, not worried, but concerned.
A agree that there were a few bright spots in this game. Timmons, Dixon, and yes I though Baker just to name 3, but Willy Reid was in no way one of them, even if he did catch 2 balls.

The Run D is probably the thing Im worried about the most(Never thought Id have to say that about the Steelers)

Since the Jets game of last year...they've looked about the same in that regard....i..e.

It looks like we are playing Fred Taylor every game.....where Our DL/LBs get moving one way and the Backs just cutback for huge yardage.....Thats the hardest thing for me to watch coming from the Steelers....

Its the one thing that teams shouldn't be able to do to us.

Im not pressing the panic button, but I'll definitely be looking at it if AD embarrasses next week...and he will if they give him those cutback lanes

Which one? The Fred Taylor that churned out 147 against us in week 15, or the Fred Taylor that went for 48 yards against us in the Wild Card game?

No matter how many people try to spin it, the Run Defense hasn't been well.

I think he's insinuating that Week 15 Fred Taylor shows up in each game against the Steelers. The Starting D came out for the second week in the row flat and out of position, once again making a young or mediocre QB look like Joe Montana.

I can't believe I'm saying it, but it looks like the Steelers may have to get into shootouts to win games this year. The D looks sick. And not in a good way.

08-14-2008, 11:25 PM

Our fans completely overrate our starting defense.

Ditto. Same goes for the O line. Everyone's talkin about how bad the D is, where is our O line? Steelers had an entire off season to get that straightened out, so why is Ben still running for his life on every down and why can't we run the ball for shi*?

Glad to see Clark back on D. He's the only one who bothers reading the plays, but maybe someone needs to teach him how to tackle.

I give this team's performance an "F" tonight. I turned it off after Bill's starting D went out. I don't give a shi* if Ben did throw a 40-yd TD pass. Do it against the starting D and then maybe we'll care.

Sounds to me like it was, well, a PRESEASON game. No big deal. Tomlin will just work on the mistakes and smooth the kinks for next week's PRESEASON game to see how it plays out. Then we've got one more after that. Then guess what?

The SEASON starts. The games you play your starters the entire game and play to win, not play for the sake of snaps and playing time.

Stat-wise, it didn't seem like a bad game. We only gave up two sacks, those by 2-3rd stringers.

Preseason game folks. :coffee:

Telling stat - The Bills ran 110 yards vs the Steelers 27 yards by mid third quarter.

Over all I was appalled at what I saw from the Steelers. They got punked by the much more impressive and ready-to-play Bills.

The Bills came to play. They out-played the Steelers in every phase of the game. Their first string looked like first string players while the Steelers first string looked like third stringers in comparison.

The Positives: Thank God the game didn't count. Timmons and Dixon were the only bright spots.

Kemo CAN pull. whenever I saw him pull he mauled the guy in front of him. He was actually the only bright spot on the line.

The Negatives: Where to start?

The Steelers OL, collectively, is still pathetic. They can't run or pass block.

Hartwig was unimpressive.

Colon was awful. He can't handle the speed rush. He's a guard, only.

Starks was a bungling, slow footed buffoon when they drafted him. Now he's an expensive, bungling, slow footed buffoon. Colbert is an idiot for tagging this fool and paying him almost 7 mil. this season!

The Willie Reid experiment is over. He was given his opportunity and he failed to seize the moment. Bye Willie.

Where's the pass rush? Edwards had all day to pick them apart. What makes matters worse is they were playing a vanilla offense without their best Offensive lineman LT, Jason Peters.

The Steelers defense was getting their collective behinds run on all game and by no name backs trying to make the Bill's roster. By contrast the Steelers couldn't run effectively.

Casey looked fat and out of shape. He was a non factor.

I don't believe Troy would have made that much of a difference. Bad is bad and the Steelers were bad.

Where's the tackling? Are you kidding me?! The Steelers DB's were embarrassing themselves! They were missing tackles all game.

The Steelers special teams still look horrible. Once again they allow a kick returner to go all the way for a TD. UGGHH! ENOUGH!

Since I haven't watched the game I cannot comment on the rest of the team, but whatever I hear about this Reid guy, is not so good. Not good at all. Every time his name came up, it's not good. I think it's time 4 us 2 cut him.

It was not a pretty good game. There were some bright spots like the play of Ben, Timmons, Dixon and Kemoeatu. Other than that there was some really bad play. Sweed sure didn't look like the highly touted receiver he is. He whiffed and dropped a lot of passes.

The guy was a third round pick in 2006 and has yet to justify his draft status either as a punt/kick returner or as a receiver. This was supposed to be his game to prove that he belongs on the team. He failed to do the one thing that all players say they need and that is the opportunity to prove themselves. The only thing Willie proved was the coaching staff's lack of confidence in him.
