CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina Panthers cornerback Ricardo Colclough was arrested Saturday and charged with driving while impaired.

Colclough was arrested hours before the Panthers had to make their final cuts. Mecklenburg County jail records showed Colclough was being held on $1,000 bond.

"We're aware of it," team spokesman Charlie Dayton said . He declined further comment.

Colclough, 26, was signed by the Panthers in the offseason but failed to win the punt return and kickoff return jobs in the preseason. It put his future with the team in jeopardy, with Dante Wesley and C.J. Wilson competing for the final cornerback spots on the team.

The Panthers had to trim 22 players from the roster by late Saturday.

Colclough became the second Panthers player arrested on a DWI charge this year. Receiver Dwayne Jarrett pleaded guilty in June, three months after being pulled over in the Charlotte suburb of Mint Hill. Jarrett was ordered to pay court costs and perform 24 hours of community service.

Colclough was Pittsburgh's second-round pick in 2004. He played as a reserve and returned kickoffs in 30 games in his first two seasons with the Steelers, earning a Super Bowl ring after the 2005 season.

He spent most of the 2006 season on injured reserve with a neck injury and was inactive in 13 games in 2007 before Pittsburgh decided not to re-sign him.

Coke was injury prone while he was with the Steelers and has morphed into a drunk. What a noodle head.

Hasta la vista Colclough.

He has to be one stupid person. With a chance to make an NFL team and get a DWI before the last cut down.

A day ago, cornerback and return man Ricardo Colclough probably would have been on the roster. But Colclough was charged with driving while impaired early this morning and that probably prompted his release. The Panthers might put up with some issues from important players, but not from Colclough.

Colclough sucks. Just another wasted draft pick. Drafting him in the 2nd round in 2004 was about as dumb of an idea as Steely McBeam.

He's only 26? Seemed like he has been around for years and years...
