I just watched a promo of the new America's Game: The Missing Rings, showcasing teams that were very good, but just weren't able to win the big one. It's interesting. The first episode is dedicated to the 1981 'Air Coryell' San Diego Chargers.

So who do you believe are the best teams to not win a Super Bowl?

I'd put the '98 Vikes on the list. Wrong team (Atlanta) made it to the SB for the NFC that year. The '98 Broncos and Vikes would have probably put up 80-100 points combined on the scoreboard. Instead, everyone was treated to watching the Falcons get blown out.

Dan Fout's Chargers
1995 Steelers
2001 Steelers*
2003 Panthers*
2004 Steelers*
2004 Eagles*

*all cheated by the same team.

In reference to the the '98 season, I agree that the Super Bowl should have either been the Bronco's vs the Vikes -or- the Jets vs. the Falcons. The fact that the Falcons went screwed us all out of a better Super Bowl.

I know I'm forgetting a few here....

The Packers team that lost to Elway was a pretty good team. They really could have been a "dynasty" type team had they won that game.

I agree. I probably should have put them in, but for Elway and the Broncos.

1997 Steelers.......with Mike Tomczak??? I definitely thought we should have beaten the Pats, but....

Yeah, that Fog Bowl sucked.

Wasn't that the year Tomczak threw a pass from his back?....straight into the air.

Actually, that may have been him standing in for Kordell.

That was the '96 Steelers team, 1997 was the year they lost to Elway's Broncos
24-21 in the AFC Championship game with Kordell at the helm. The Steelers probably would have been in the SB that year if it was not for that hiddeous pass Kordell threw to the endzone that got picked off or if Big Ben or Bradshaw was the QB.

1997 marked the end of the 90's Steelers, Kordell wasn't the same since. But I don't know if that team would've beaten the Packers. They were closing in on a second Super Bowl for themselves.

I definately know the Steelers would've beaten the '94 Niners and '01 Rams.

this series is gonna be great. i cant wait for the 91 bills. i bet the 80(?) eagles will be highlighted with ron jawarski and dick vermeil as commentators (theyre great on tv). the vikings with fran tarkenton has to be one.

im not sure they will do a steelers one, since the steelers have been highlighted so many times in the series but it would be a sin to leave out the 76 team. it might be a bit redundant with the other 4 that have been done, but i sure would like to see bradshaw, noll and lambert give commentary.

less redundant would be the 95 steelers with kevin green, rod woodson, and bam? :chuckle: (scratch that) and greg lloyd.

I'm sure there has to be at least one Dan Marino led Dolphins that get's an honorable mention.

1968 Colts. If they played that game 100 times, the Colts would win 99. Namath was his generations Tom Brady.

the 1995 steelers should have won the super bowl.. their defense was better than the cowboys offense, which had 4 hall of famers.. our offense moved the ball on them, but of course.. threw the game away.

It would almost have to be the 1984 team if any.
Wonder if the 1990 San Fransisco 49ers will be featured. That was a great team not to win a chamionship but came right after 2 super bowl championship teams.
