11-28-2005, 11:57 PM
So why the freaking heck did Cowher do something stuipd like that????

You'd think it would be better to hold them further back. There was NO NEED for that on-sides kick.

I'm going to go puke.

Most importantly, if we DO lose, we proved we can hang with the Colts in their dome. We need to concentrate on winning out and getting Ben up to full speed for the playoffs.

If we win, the same exact things apply.

cripes, sounds like you're already admitting defeat. What the Pats proved you can do to Manning (think of the last four years, not this!) is that you can rattle him. But you have to keep the pressure on. I don't know why the Stillers went away from the blitx. That rattles the heck out of him. You might as well wave the white flag as send in only the three down linemen. Make evey play about forcing him to throw it before he wants to. The Stillers have the speed rush and D to make it ugly for PM. Why back off the blitz and only bring three???

Rush58
11-28-2005, 11:58 PM
Everybody wants to see Ben throw the ball...claiming he can't do it...

Guess what? If we go down 12-16, we'll get to see Ben throw.

So be it...

Yeah, dump the game on Ben now when we should have been developing him against Texans, Browns, etc. It's a great excuse for Cowher to blame the QB. That's why he wants to run the ball so much.

ben has looked good. he shouldve been unleashed from the get go. now is the time.

Tim
11-28-2005, 11:59 PM
On the other hand, it wasn't a conservative call ;)

I liked it, we just didn't get it. If it had worked, it would have been a great call, now it just looks stupid.

Suitanim

BIG PICTURE:

Ben throws. It's not last year. Let him go...let's see what he can do. Cowher knows a victory out of defeat here is highly improbable, but Cincy lingers in the wings.

Throw the ball...open it up.

Atlanta Dan

The onside kick said Cowher did not think he could win the game straight up which is moronic.

This game is over - I agree with the prior post that said the Steelers need to win out to make the playoffs. With this coaching I do not see it.

I have blamed the linebackers as the most disappointing unit this year, but the offensive line has now taken the lead for me.

well if we don't get the first down it don't matter, it's the same as reed going out there and missing or getting a worthless 3 points so hopefully we throw and not run bettis so he can get stopped 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage

We need to become a balance offense.

Atlanta Dan

Not to get too dramatic, but getting stuffed here would be the definitive statement that the O line has lost it completely.

BurghThing

Gotta have a TD here. This is the right call, unlike that moronic on-side kick where our stupid kicker can't even kick it 10 freaking yards.

Its official, they've lost it completely. Wasn't there some team who actually wanted to hire Russ and promote him? Yet we made him an assistant head coach?!

Don't get me wrong, loved the guy in college, but as a coach, feh.

Big turn-over by the Steelers defense or a quick 4 and out, then a quick Steelers touchdown, there is hope.

Otherwise, the fury level rises...

Had it worked, your whole story would be different.

The season is over now?

I will then expect that we won't be hearing anything from you for the rest of the year...

Yeah if it worked Cowher gets the ball on his own 40, which he also gets if he does a regular kickoff and the Steelers hold them 3 and out, a not unreasonable possibility given how the D played in the first half. That alternative (more likely than recovering an onside kick) also fires up the teamn with a stop to start the 2nd half.

But the play didn't work, was poorly executed (a recurring special teams issue this season) and was a sign of desperation not normally associated with the Steelers. It sent the message that Cowher did not believe he could win playing Steeler football.

The seaon is not over but the margin of error is down to nothing for a team that has not played well as a team in any game other than the Browns game since beating Cincinnati.
If this board is limited to cheerleading I will quit posting but Cowher has it coming for that call.

BIGBENFASTWILLIE

Exactly! Cowher has made the Steelers a won dimensional team. Therefore, we can only win the game one way. Why draft a qb if we are not going to develop him.

I'm glad this isn't the Patsies that are 11-0. Too bad the AFC East is so weak. I hate the fact they can still make it to play-offs.

Both Jacksonville and New England have a win over the Steelers. The Steelers need to win every game from here on out to make sure that the Bungles don't knock them out.

This sure as heck feel like a playoff game. You know what it is and every game from here on out. It is going to be a nailbiter season from this point forward.

And the under 100 yard game streak is over.

Well as much as I hate to admit it - the Colts played some great football tonight.

Sanders was my player of the game - read the game and make some beautiful hits.

The Steelers need to pass earlier/ play action on 1st and 2nd down - it is too late to start passing in the 4th when the Colts are waiting for it.

Cowher is hugely over-rated, he digs his team into holes that he needs trick plays and onside kicks to get out of - I think maybe he will only be able to see this once he retires.

Cheers

Most frustrating game of the season right there. Never have I left early during a Steelers game. Not even when Maddox was playing.

it was a hell of a quarterback draw.......did they forget that he had surgery 3 weeks ago and Maddox is the back up?

parker is not the back for this offense. there is a reason he went undrafted. we need to get a larry johnson type back here.

I really do love Parker and the burst of speed he brings. But we need a big power running back to compliment him.

Im afraid that if the steelers dont go out and spend some money this offseason, and we dont have a nice draft,........then we are in for a rebuilding year within a year or 2......

shit i was afriad this offseason when we only got wilson...... i hated that we didn't better ourselves at all, reminds me of the raiders a few years back when they went to the superbowl and kept everyone and then splat they went to shit, hopefully our front office is smarter then that and will draft lendale white then in the second draft o-linemen and then in the free agent get someone that can make some what of an impact

How about they go out and sign a true DEEP threat. Last year teams had to guard against Buress going deep. Wilson and Randl el scare NO ONE.

well, this game could have gone worse, if Ben didn't go through that surgery, but they still did the best they could. Ben was a little rusty for being off a few weeks, but at least we scored.

Scored? Troy gift wrapped that TD for Ben and it's the ONLY reason we got a sniff of the endzone.

Does anyone remember how many players came back today that have been out? Forget the QB being out for 3 weeks, but we had a few other starters out that came back this week. Before everyone starts talking about firing the coach and "rebuilding" next year, and the almighty draft............ WE AREN'T DONE YET! Good God Almighty, what is wrong with you people?! Are you sure you're Steelers fans? Look at the big picture and quit your whining. Koopa, you have obviously endured enough pain with Cowher at the helm, I say YOU resign as a fan! I'm sick of hearing people complain about him. Parity in the league is a beautiful thing, if you think that just because he coaches our beloved team that he has some kind of edge to get to the SB, then you just need to get real. Maybe Fantasy Football would be best for you. People get hurt and coaches make mistakes and yes.... play calling sucks more than we like it to! But if you're a fan you can stick with it because we do succeed more times than not. Steelers fans are spoiled. Look at Detroit, they get a good coach and fire him because of the GM's failures! If you're truly a fan then you'll recognize how special your team is and will be. If you don't, sorry about your luck!

No we aren't done yet... and Im certainly not throwing in my terrible towel on this team, ever.

I bleed black n gold for life. Period..

but watching us get outcoached week in and week out, against good teams when we know we have the talent to beat them is just disgusting.

Ditto to everything you wrote Blitz. I love the Steelers and have as long as I can remember. This game was just disgusting. Steelers should be very driven when Cincy comes to Pittsburgh.

I'm choose to put my faith in coaches the same as I do the players. It is baffling to me, as it is all of us, what's happening with the staff, I hope believe that they are going to make us hold our breath until the end of the season this year. 15-1 wasn't something we were expecting but we are all frustrated because of it. Keep our Division in perspective and we can overcome this loss.

Nice "rally" speech but last proved only ONE thing. The Steelers can't compete with the Colts but for the record that's pretty much any team this season. The way the Colts ran the ball on our good run stop defense proves they would be winning inside or outside that dome. They are a complete team this year compared to last year's Colts because their defense is playing with a "mean" edge something they've lacked the past few years.

Barring injuries they should easily win the SB this year.

I thought our O-line was horrible, and some of those false start penalties really hurt our chances. Jeff Reed's missed feild goal hurt and took any momentum we had, and the failed onsides kick killed our chances of winning.

Last night was quite possibly the most depressing Steeler game I've watched since the AFC Championship game last year :crying01: What's more, I'm deep in Redskin territory down here in Richmond, VA so there's absolutely no sympathy as I wear my Bettis jersey in mourning.

But what sucked the most about the game was that the defense had the Colts offense more or less contained considering how amazing Peyton and his crew is......it was Cowher's brilliant onside kick and a couple key mistakes on the Steelers' offense that handed the game over to the Colts. I'm not kicking Cowher when he's down or anything cuz I think he's still a great coach, but he seriously screwed his team last night. Right from the start it was obvious that it would be a battle over field position and yet he opens the 2nd half with a half-assed onside kick.

Oh well, at least we got to see Troy make an awesome interception

If the Steelers recover the onside kick and Ben makes the 4th and 4 by doing the draw play you guys would be calling Cowher a genuis.

The line jumped offsides because the crowd was so loud they couldn't hear the count. I know you're the big bad tough Steelers, but if the guards and tackles want to hold hands to help with the snap count we won't laugh at you (well....maybe I would a little)

Don't blame the coach and line for your loss to the Colts. They are just a better team than you this season, or at least this week. There's no way they're ever gonna win it all, Peyton always chokes in big games. (That injured Pats Monday night game wasn't that big).

It's not easy to admit, but the Steelers got outplayed and outcoached, las night. Whether it was unimaginative play calling -- run, run, pass -- a lack of discipline on defense -- 80-yard play-action pass to open the game and several James' rushes that seemed to be stopped only to turn in to decent gains -- or another crippling performance from special teams -- missed field goal and the onside kick -- the Steelers simply got schooled.

I'm not giving up on the season. Pittsburgh is still in the North and if they win at home against Cincy they could get on a roll and finish strong. What I am concerned with, however, is the way our team seems to piss down both legs when they are facing an opponent who may be viewed as the superior team. Outside of last season's wins against undefeated Philly and New England, when was the last time the Steelers won a game over a "better" team when it mattered? Sure, people were jocking Cincy when the Steelers beat them, but the Bengals were trying to figure out how to win meaningful games.

No excuses. Pittsburgh had their chances and they couldn't do anything with them. It's becoming disheartening but in the up and down world of the NFL if a team gets hot at the right time they can ride it to a title. Can the Steelers do it? Absolutely, but not if they play like they did on MNF.
