As of this week, our D is ranked #1 against the pass, #2 against the run, and 1st overall.

Wave them towels!!!:tt02::tt02::tt02::tt02::tt02:

Nice, but they gotta keep it going for ten more weeks

also leading the league in sacks btw (25)

Wave those towels then trade for mine! (see sig)!

But seriously, the D has been awesome, but not just again the run, the blitz's have come non-stop and the QB's just don't have time to throw. Time to do the Hoke-y Pokie!

it's good to see the steelers at #1, but the they haven't exactly played many powerhouse offenses.

Who's a powerhouse offense this year? The Cardinals lead the league in scoring at about 29.5 a game. :noidea:

Even in our loss the D only let up 13 points (there was a safety in that game)

I keep the magic number at 20. If our Offense gets 21, we win, every time.

I still maintain we are the best defense in the league.

No more Joe Flaccos and Ryan Fitzpatricks Mannings and Rivers ahead. That should tell the story.

Well we may rank 1st in yardage, but yardage does not tell the whole story.

I don't think there's any question we have a top 5, and probably a top 3 defense, but the Titans have a very strong claim to the #1 spot.

Very true. We are definately top 3 to top 5. Titans can have the title right now. I would love to see us settle that arguement when we play the Titans. Wait until Hampton gets back.

At the moment, we're ranked #2 in scoring defense (14.8 ppg) and the Titans are ranked #1 (11.0 ppg). This trumps yardage allowed rankings, IMO.

I think both of them need to be used to assess who the better defense is. After all, an offense may give the ball over in their own end a number of times. That would run up the score a bit more. The other ranking I think needs to be used to assess the defense is time on the field. 130 yards a game with 20 minutes on the field is not nearly as good as 150 yards a game allowed with 35 minutes on the field

Not a shock. You guys always have a good defense. Offhand can anyone recall when you have not? I am guessing maybe back in the 90s or something.

2003... our run D was still ok, but our pass D. was HORRIBLE.

Depending on which Giants team shows up, this will be a good game.

Our pass rush this year has been the difference. The Steelers are always fantastic against the run, and our secondary has improved a lot in the last few years, but Harrison and Woodley (and Smith, Timmons, Farrior.... everyone) are the stuff of nightmares for opposing QBs.

Hard to do much with the ball when you are fearing for your life 2 seconds after the ball is snapped, and it's just that simple this year.

Sadly, that is true on both sides of the ball :chuckle:

though to be honest.... the Steelers DID look better this Sunday.

Our defense is filled with young upcoming stars, and the Veterans who raise the youngsters as leaders.
Woodley and Harrison are by far the best Outside Linebacking core in the league, and the veteran Farrior and the Youngster Timmons are also racking up the sacks.
The line is all strong tough leaders and our defense deserves to be #1.
Lets keep it up.

Hopefully our deffense will be able to get to Eli on sunday and pressure him into mistakes and add to our sack total this is going to be a good game come sunday.

I think it's great but when it comes down to it, I'd rather have the 7th ranked Defense and a 6th Trophy than the 1st rank Defense and nothing to show for it.

I thought we sucked in 03-04?

We were an overtime field goal away from the AFC title game in 02-03

We made Kelly Holcomb look like the second coming of Joe Montana in that wild card game. McNair picked us apart at will all day in the divisional game the following week. Our secondary is the primary reason we didn't make the AFCCG in '02.

I could care less about stats. Every game we've been in the the opposition was trying to score points (either playing from behind or in close games) right up until the end of the game (not running the ball to eat up clock) and the Steelers D has stood tough in all those situations. They truly bend without breaking.

Unfortunately, studies have shown bend but don't break defenses tend to regress as time goes on.

I wouldn't even classify the steelers as a bend but don't break D. It seems we either get 3 and outs or give up a 10 play scoring drive.

I loathe both of them to this very day. Along with Kordell Stewart, Neil Odonnell, Bubby Brister's game and the fact that Dshea Townsend was EVER allowed to wear Rod's number.(as well as the fact that he has been a starter here so long ?!):banging:

Uhhhhh,.....guess,...i went on ,..a bit of a rant,....:chuckle:

There was that time in Late 2001 and into 2003 when the Steelers had a pretty miserable secondary. Man, I thought that would never be fixed. The Run Defense was inpenetrable however. So teams went after the Steelers in the air. Many a headache those times.

Well, now is the time for the Steelers to show that their Defense is the best on the block, especially with Troy up in the air and Mcfadden out. I like Tomlin's attitude on the matter. Injuries happen and expectations don't change for anyone. If one guy goes out, the next guy steps up.

The Giants will get the Steelers' best shots Sunday.

The D is playing great this year..... putting pressure on the QB allows us to use all of our defensive schemes to try and confuse the other teams. It also seems that we have been able to get off of the field on 3rd down a lot better this year than compared to the past few years.

This years D is about the same as last years D ....

Now before anyone goes nuts, remember what happened last year. The first 8 games or so, our D was unbelievable. I remember threads asking if the D was as good as the Steel Curtain era D.

Then the second half of the season came and the Defense just looked tired. So while I am VERY excited about our D this year, I am still holding my breath until we going into December.

Huh? Studies?

My problem is that I really think some of you people expect the Steelers to ONLY pitch 3 and outs all game, every game. If the opposition gains more than 20 yards rushing and 50 yards passing, and they score a point, we somehow failed.

Don't forget, we have to be up by 45 by halftime too otherwise we suck!

70? 70 YARDS???

You think its ok for a team to move the ball 70 YARDS on us?

That is 210 feet!!!

With the average kickoff being returned to about the 30 or so yard line.. that is a GUARANTEED TOUCHDOWN EVERY GAME!

We suck!
