RB Kevin Faulk Suspended Week 1

Patriots 3rd down specialist Kevin Faulk was suspended for the first regular season game following his arrest for possession of marijuana at a Lil Wayne concert in February.

Although this seems like a loss for the Pats, the team still can use RB LaMont Jordan (who has great hands out of the backfield) in his place. Mike Reiss also points out that the suspension means Faulk will not count against the Patriots 53-man roster until after week 1, allowing the team to keep an extra player on their roster.

Matt Jones was suspended 3 game after getting charged and arrested for felony cocaine possession. he was cutting up cocaine on his dashboard for Christ sake and he barely got 3 games.

I'd wait to see what the NFL has to say first, especially with their recent encounters with Steeler players regarding fines and such.

if he gets more than faulk it would get appealed and shortened in a millisecond.

We have to back up...

first... regardless of anything else, I want to see a conviction or an admission.

Then, I want to see a suspension. If teh league suspends, like I said somewhere else, I want the Steelers to suspend agian... double the suspension.

Faulks happened in the offseason, that may be a factor.

i dont really think that makes a difference to them.

Another thing, hasn't Holmes had prior 'off the field issues' in his career? Did Faulk prior to his weed incident? Isn't that something the commish might consider? As I said before, I like Santonio, I hope he doesn't get suspended at all.

Actually, no he didn't.

When he was first drafted, he was arrested for disorderly conduct or something like that. Basically, he stepped into the street around a cop in some kind of block party. It was dropped...

The other was a domestic charge that was dropped quite quickly once it came to light. More a case of (and I don't say this lightly, please see my posts concerning Harrison and dookie) the girl seeing dollar signs right after the draft.

I am a bit worried that the Commish may send another message to the Steelers for all the other stuff going on with Hines and Troy, etc...
If he gets more than one game then something is definately fishy.... and will again show his biased towards the * PATS. From what I have read Santonio was not even arrested just cited for a court date..

I can see that easily. The Rooney's don't seem to tolerate this garbage.

He wasn't even arrested....he'll get a ticket in the mail....

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Pittsburgh Steelers receiver and former Ohio State player Santonio Holmes will be charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession after a traffic stop in which police smelled burning marijuana and found marijuana-filled cigars in his car.

"He's going to be summoned," said police Sgt. R. Griffith, meaning Holmes was not arrested after the incident Thursday, but will receive notice of the charge in the mail.

but I still bet he sits...

I'll just wait and see how the Rooney's handle this. In the past, they have shipped out anyone being in possession - albeit large amounts.

A lot of beef was made this off season about how players are dealt with and now the Rooney's are faced with tough one.

Oh ok they were dropped, I didn't know that.I just remember them saying on the news he had a couple run-ins back in 2006. My Steelers buddy says the same thing about the $$$ $igns right after the draft.

I don't think Holmes deserves to be suspended. I support him 100%. Sorry but Holmes being caught with a bit of weed isn't a big deal to me.

I think the whole getting deactivated thing is good enough punishment. He didn't even lie to the officers. He told them straight up it was in his car. First time, misdemeanor charges, minor punishment.

I agree. I hate to say this to you guys, but I can't believe you guys feel so angry toward Holmes. Sure the guy tokes up once in a while (I'll be willing to bet a lot of NFL players do, just like normal people), and sure he got cited for it, not arrested like ESPN said. I can't believe you guys can hold some leniency on him, especially how he handled the situation. He didn't lie and he didn't dig himself into a deeper hole. I really do believe most of you are overreacting to this. It's odd to note that you will say that he is garbage and he is trash that should be disposed of in the off-season, yet when you guys didn't know about the weed, he was one of the best receivers in the NFL. Hey, what you don't know can't hurt you. I can't believe you people. I think the deactivation is enough. Maybe a one-game suspension, even if this is his first time about it. I think that if he had failed a test earlier, it would of spread already. It could be worse, he could of killed someone, and still of gotten off the hook. (Ray-Ray, anyone?)

Most fans are more upset that he brought a distraction to the team. Use some common sense. Driving out of state -smoking blunts in a expensive SUV. Just sheer stupidity.

I am all for sitting him this game and letting the NFL take a game as punishment.

But we are not the bungles we don't accept our players in a negative light.

I won't bash Holmes but he has had prior incidents. I could care less the outcome of those incidents. We all know there is ways to beat the system. One more infraction and I will be calling for his release.

On another note. You are getting paid a lot of money. You are representing a storybook franchise. You know the rules, abide by them. The NFL span for a WR isn't long compared to blue collar workers, the every day average joe if you will.. Show you respect the opportunity that you were given to play professional football.

As fans we buy tickets and sell out games and bring large viewing audiences to the table. We buy merchandise. a lot of money is being spent. I think it is reasonable for fans to expect that a player follows the guidelines of the NFL as well as team rules.
