Sean Morey WR ERFA
Bo Lacy OT ERFA
Eric Taylor DE ERFA
Grant Bowman DT ERFA
Dedrick Roper LB ERFA
Vontez Duff CB ERFA
Verron Haynes RB RFA
Lee Mays WR RFA
Brett Keisel DE RFA
Larry Foote LB RFA
Chris Hope FS RFA
Jeff Reed PK RFA
Charlie Batch QB UFA
Plaxico Burress WR UFA
Matt Cushing TE UFA
Barrett Brooks OT UFA
Oliver Ross OT UFA
Kendrick Clancy DT UFA
Kendrell Bell LB UFA
Willie Williams CB UFA
Ainsley Battles SS UFA
Tyrone Carter FS UFA

I'd say attention to Bell, Ross, and Burress to see what they want to stay, if not get the best deal. Then sign all 2nd tier restricted guys like Verron, Mays, Foote, Hope, and Reed. Draft smart and then pick up left over free agents as to not overpay.

They'll resign verron, no doubt, especially with jerome's status up in the air after the season. It wouldnt surprise me to see them let Ross go, since we have Max Starx waiting in the wings to take over.

Plax is a must resign, IMO..Bell is kinda 50-50 at this point, it just depends on how much money he wants. we shouldnt overpay him.

Lee Mays WR RFA
Brett Keisel DE RFA
Larry Foote LB RFA
Chris Hope FS RFA
Jeff Reed PK RFA

**all will be back, IMO...RFA are alot easier to keep, since you have the right of first refusal, and cowher isnt gonna let his middle linebacking corp be held intact by just bell alone, since he cant seem to stay on the field.

Clancey and willie williams will both probably be back as well..both of them are SOLID backups and williams has played well in scotts absence.

batch wont be back and matt cushing will make the team at some point in training camp ;)

From si.com truth and rumors...

Steelers director of football operations Kevin Colbert didn't completely reject the idea of giving multi-year contracts with big signing bonuses to players at the same position this offseason. The Steelers may be faced with that dilemma, with four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Hines Ward expecting a contract extension and Plaxico Burress approaching unrestricted free agency in three weeks.
-- Pittsburgh Tribune Review

If the team is unable to satisfy Burress, who has said he doesn't expect to be back, Colbert and coach Bill Cowher will seek a replacement in free agency and the draft. It might be easier to find one in the draft. The free-agency class of wide receivers isn't especially deep this year. It includes Jerry Porter of the Raiders, David Patten of the Patriots, Corey Bradford of the Texans and T.J. Houshmandzadeh of the Bengals. The Patriots' David Givens is a restricted free agent, who would cost a seventh-round draft choice to sign.
-- Pittsburgh Tribune Review

By the way March 2 is deadline for cap space. Should see some action leading up to it.

Interview with Bettis at Pro Bowl now says he is 50-50 on coming back. He is still having fun, but I don't know if he would take another year of minimum pay.

He wont retire becuz of not getting enough money..he's got all he needs from his contracts w/ the Steelers, and his endorsements.. for him, its all about another chance at a SB ring. Thats all he wants. If his body says he can do it..he'll be back.

something tells me he'll come back 1 more time. U just know Jerome, he still has that desire, so we'll see.

I also think in my heart Jerome would suit it up for a cup of coffee for the Steelers. Its just if you read the print, he is quoted as saying "If the situation is right" then he'll come back. Seems to me that if you say if my body tells me to play then okay. But if you talk about the "situation", then that deals with money and role. Strange to think coming from Bettis, but hey he did bail us out with his great pay and we would be cutting 3-4 million off his price tag to sign him at the same rate again.

For an update on the Free Agents:

The Steelers will offer qualifying offers to all RFA's. This means we will keep or can counter offer for:

Foote(LB), Haynes(RB), Hope(S), Keisel(DE), Mays(WR), Reed(PK), Morey(WR), Stuvaints(S)
Foote, Haynes, Hope, Reed top the list for must keep. Foote could replace Bell, Haynes for Bettis, Hope is for consistency purpose, and Reed is a top must because Heinz field is not for the weak at heart.

So for the rest:
QB - Batch is gone. Sorry but he never saw action and thanks to Ben and Tommy never will, plus St. Pierre showed that he has ability to be a capable 3rd string. Saves money too.
O-Line - Brooks, Ross, and Vincent. I don't see us being aggressive in this area since we are solid, but we would welcome either back if unsigned by other teams. Plus watch us stock pile more rookies in the draft.
Skill - Burress, Cushing, Rasby. Burress is a free agent now. More than likely someone will pay him and he will be gone, but there is around a 15% chance he could be back if Moss and other free agents fill holes. Rasby will be gone as he was filling holes cause of injury. Don't call us we'll call you. Cushing is a player who shows up at the UPMC practice field on his days off. He knows he has a good think with us and wont go elsewhere. We will sign him again after we know are numbers better.
D-Line - Clancy is gone because Hoke had a great year. Hampton is still the man but we know we have quality in Hoke at less money.
LB's - Bell is interesting. I think he is a 3-4 LB and more teams will switch over this year and need talent. But will they pay top money for a injury case? If healthy Bell is gone in an instant. But such is the case, Steelers could keep him if no big money happens fast and they get the house in order to know their numbers more. The key is we are in the drivers seat because of Foote being a solid replacement.
Secondary - Battles, Carter, and Williams. Battles and Carter are roster fillers at best. Familiar with the system and low money. Need will determine their future. Williams is the factor. If we cut Scott next Wednesday, then we sign Williams to a year or so and look for more help in the draft.

Still waiting to see which Free agents we were checking out in Hawaii...

Parker is great, but u could see many times in the buffalo game, he just got flat out stuffed when running between the tackles. He's just not quite big enough to carry the load as much as verron does, IMO. but willie is an awesome 3rd down player from the perspective of a change of pace guy that can bounce it outside. :)

x2... Haynes picked up many key blocks and some huge runs against the Jets especially to keep drives alive in that close game. If he can keep those toes of his healthy, he'll be decent for sure. and Ben really likes him too,so that helps.

"Stink in the hamper" davenport looks like the guy for now. he is big and fast and talented. I think they want to resign Verron at a minimum ass$uming full health. Haynes is very good & I don't think Verron has ever been caught taking a dump in someones clothes hamper either.

Ben really likes motorcycles and alcohol but I'm not sure if either of those will be starters.
Best wishes Blitzburgh!:tt02:

You're right, Willie got stuffed alot inside. It seemed like he would run 10 times for 2 yards each inside, then bounce outside for a 30 yarder.:tt02:
