Steelers healing; Heath Miller could return
By Scott Brown
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Tuesday, November 18, 2008

The Steelers are in relatively good health as they prepare for the Bengals on a short week for each team.

Coach Mike Tomlin said tight end Heath Miller could return for Thursday’s 8:15 p.m. game after missing the previous two contests with a sprained ankle. Tomlin did rule out cornerbacks Bryant McFadden (arm) and Deshea Townsend (hamstring) for this week.

William Gay will make his second career start at the cornerback spot opposite Ike Taylor against the Bengals while Anthony Madison and Fernando Bryant will again share the role of nickel back.

Max Starks will start his sixth consecutive game at left tackle as Tomlin said things are still “status quo” with Marvel Smith.

Smith, Tomlin added, may need surgery to correct the back problems that have plagued him since early October.

As for the overall healthy of the Steelers, Tomlin said, “We came out of (last) Sunday’s game pretty good.”

You know, it's looking like a better and better option to just let Smith go, and pay Starks whatever he was making. He seems like he's doing OK over on that side again, and if you ask me, it looks like Smith's days as a top-quality starter are done.

See? That works out for everyone. Except Smith, I guess, but whatever.

He ruled out mcfadden, but the steelers website said mcfadden had full participation in practice today.

Good, so that means they can start ignoring him in the game plan this week then.

I hope Miller gets back this week I would like to see him back in the passing game more I liked what they were doing with Spaeth we need our tight ends involved more.

2 good things out that short article........

1. the return of Heath Miller and 2. no major injuries from the Bolts game.

Forward progress instead of one step forward and two steps back. Things are looking good for a relatively healthy team going into the final run. That's much better than what we faced last year. (thumbs up and fingers crossed).

I agree we need to get the to Heath when he comes although Matt has done a good job. Now it all starts upfront and, if we don't always have to use who ever is playing TE to block for extra protection for Ben our TE would be more envolved in the passing game. Then maybe when it is third down look for Miller or Ward as the no Brainer go to guys.

I agree that Matt has done a great job and now we will have 2 TE's that can hurt you in the passing game.

What kills me is that we have so much talent on O and its just not clicking right now. I hope they can all get on the same page real soon because I miss seeing the endzone.

Yup the more tightends we have the better. I will be happy when we get millers blocking back, and hopefully we use him like we did Matt.

If we would actually use Miller as a recieving threat that would be nice.
We used Spaeth and he made alot of nice catches and first downs, and i know Miller can be a much better reciever.

would love to see miller back tomorrow, would add another clutch receiver to ben's arsenal. spaeth's done the job well though, good blocking too (plus he's like 6'7 270lbs)

If the Steelers can finish the season with the #2 seed and go into the playoffs with everyone 100%. That will be a huge accomplishment considering all the freak injuries they have had. All those guy like Gay and Timmons and Moore can be seasoned and used for depth and rest stops for our starters.

Big Ben's offense in the charger game was very Brady Pats offense like. Methotical and safe and fast. So that sacks and the line wouldn't be the story. The only thing they need to solves is scoring TDs at the 1 yard line.

If the Steelers can finish 11-5 or 12-4 this season and get that #2, that weeks rest would be HUGE and our defense has the ability to win us a Super Bowl with Big ben getting healthy and having healthy guys around him.

he's got an ankle sprain. those things can really linger. let him rest another week. its the bungles and we can beat them with mchugh if needed.

I agree. McHugh and Spaeth played extremely well (except for that smash bros block :sofunny: ) and we can continue using them until Miller is 100% healthy. We can't afford to have another Ben-like long-lingering issue.

agreed, ankle injuries can bother players for a long time, and they are really easy to reinjure. we should be able to beat cinci without him, so as much as i'd love to see him back, i don't want him rushed back for this game and want him back when he's 100%, because we'll need him for the rest of the season.
