Anyone else want to see us draft an electrifying returner in one of the middle rounds?? Santonio just hasnt done anything special as a returner and I feel like we dont really have much of a threat on our roster. Gary Russel looked good returning kicks but he does not have the speed. I just think it would be awesome if we had a guy returning kicks and punts that was a threat to take it to the house everytime he touches the ball.

Would be awesome to have a speedster returning kicks. However as mentioned before, we also need to work on forming a good wedge on kick off returns as well.

I think this issue will be addressed during the offseason, but you have to admit, our special teams play has improved by leaps and bounds. (Ernster the exception)

well i'm not 2 hell bound on the punt return game.. i mean returning punts are hard 2 do with such a small distance from the time u actually get the ball and when there are actual defenders...

we need a randle-el type of a returner and then they can actually play a decent wr

Our special teams has improved greatly this season, no doubt about that! If Sepulveda would not have gotten hurt we woldn't have the punter issue. I just would like to see us get a speedy homerun threat returner.

I like Mark Parson from Ohio, he would give the Steelers a return specialist, and we all know depth at CB is never a bad thing.

Who was the last reall threat we had returning kicks?

It would be great to have someone like Cribbs or Hester retruning for us but as Steelwall said it all starts with the wedge we have improved in this area but we still have some work to do.

Another kid you might watch for is Pat White, QB from West Virginia. He might also be a replacment for Ward when he does quit football.

We just might be able to get him in the 4th round.

pat white is a great running qb in college... he could be more of a randle-el...

even a leon washington would be nice... leodis mckelvin doing good as the returner and a db...

in college i would have 2 say that joe burnett from ucf would be a good returner... and if we want a wr.. i would think 2 look at derrick williams from psu... he is a threat when he has the ball

Have to agree with that assessment. A good acquisition as a return man plus add needed depth at CB. Could be a good option with the compensatory pick in the third.

I read a few mock drafts that had us picked Brandon Tate WR/Return Specialist from North Carolina in the later rounds like 5th round and on.

Sorry I'm not really a mock draft type person.

An electrifying return specialist thats a legitamate WR or any DB for depth would be nice! There arent a whole lot of good return guys who are running backs like Leon Washington. I mean, dont we have enough QB's on our roster? Big Ben, Charlie Batch, Byron Leftwich, Dennis Dixon. We dont need another qb just so we can return kicks and punts.

If you are talking about Pat White, not to many people think he will play QB in the pros. He is more of a Randel-El, only maybe a little better runner.

As an fan of The U, when i saw hester available, i wanted him so so so badly, you dont understand how badly I wanted him to go with the steelers, but they passed on him and the bears got him. I knew right then and there that the Bears got themselves a nice jewel for special teams, and even he has a problem molding into a position, the steelers would of been better at making him a corner but oh well, what can you do now.

Drafting guys to return kicks/punts, especially in the high rounds, is not a great idea. There are very few KR/PR who have consistent success over many seasons, and effective return guys are pretty much as likely to be undrafted as to be high-round selections.

Its why you try and get a guy that has a dual role. Leodis McKelvin is a good return guy and young CB. Anybody see Justin Miller last night ???? A guy like that would fit nice, but not sure we have the luxury of getting a CB or WR high that can return kicks.

The kid from Uconn, Butler I think is a good return man, but we will and should be drafting line prospects.

I like that Brandon James guy from Florida. I don't think he's a senior this year but I doubt he's going to go in the first round.

Or how about that Javier Arenas guy from Alabama? He plays CB too.

like i said in a previous thread, marcus thigpen from indiana is a solid option in the later rounds... just youtube his Kick returns and you'll see pure speed... he'll also be a viable option at a 3rd down RB and a set of hands out of the backfield..

i don't think that marcus thigpen would be looked at.. just b/c he is a rb and we are alrdy filled at that pos and i doubt they would use a rb spot for a returner specialist

Ask the Chargers if Holmes has done anything special....

I read that we were going to sign a CFL RB to compete for returner duties.

How's Dexter Jackson working out for the Bucs?

Sorry, but KR is such a variable skill that even guys like Cribbs and Hester have trouble being consistantly good. We don't have problems on coverage, and I'd just as soon give a shot to a guy like Logan than waste a draft pick on a returner.

I like Pat White, and if a guy we draft happens to have the ability to return kicks as well then that's nice, but I would never spend more than a 6th-7th round pick drafting a guy first and foremost as a return man.
