Steelers Re-Sign Running Back Najeh Davenport;
Release Cornerback Roy Lewis

The Steelers made a roster move today when they brought back veteran running back Najeh Davenport to their active roster.

Davenport, who played in four games earlier this year after re-signing with the team in early October, was released following Week 9. He originally joined the Steelers as a veteran free agent in 2006, but was released by the team on June 28 of this year. In two-plus seasons with the Steelers, Davenport has rushed for 768 yards and seven touchdowns on 177 carries (4.3 avg.), and has caught 33 passes for 394 yards (11.9 avg.) and three scores. He has also returned 38 kickoffs for 788 yards (20.7 avg.) during his Steelers career.

The Steelers made room on their roster by releasing rookie cornerback Roy Lewis, who played in one game this year after spending the first nine weeks on the teamís practice squad.

PITTSBURGH -- The Steelers re-signed running back Najeh Davenport and released rookie cornerback Roy Lewis on Thursday.

Davenport spent the 2006 and 2007 seasons with Pittsburgh but was released in June. He was re-signed in October after Willie Parker injured a knee, first-round draft pick Rashard Mendenhall was lost for the season with a shoulder injury and fullback Carey Davis sprained an ankle. He was released again Nov. 8.

In two-plus seasons with Pittsburgh, Davenport ran for 768 yards, seven touchdowns and a 4.3 yards per carry average. He also had three touchdowns on pass receptions.

So we dumped a cb for for dookie?

I just hope he doesn't poop out in the 3rd quarter.

Roy Lewis was something like 190lbs.....thats a big dump.

Personally, I think Davenport as a RB is crap.

He's even worse as a KR. I wish Pittsburgh could put someone back there with a little speed to take it the distance.

I'm tired of signing letting him go signing letting him go...blah ...blah.. I share the opinion he's notthat good at running back, but I guess the front office figures he knows the system.

Please....some one convince Bettis to come out of retirement for the remainder of this season, I bet there's gas left in the bus.

Hey, it might be a blessing in disguise. Dallas may have lost Barber for the next game (don't know that for sure) but at least they can't pick up Davenport for a week to get all of our plays. They may have to settle for Sean Alexander who is no threat. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

STEELERS BRING BACK DOOKIE

Heís baaaa-aaaack.

Running back Najeh Davenport has been re-signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Again.

The Steelers announced the move earlier today. And it likely means that Willie Parker (knee) wonít be available on Sunday when the Steelers travel to New England.

To make room for Davenport, the Steelers released rookie cornerback Roy Lewis.

If Barber's out, then it's to keep Dallas or New England from picking him up.

Sad to see my boy Roy Lewis cut though.

I sure wouldn't be surprised by that.

I see the logic in picking him up. He'll get some cash along the way to stand around and watch a game or two with a killer view.

I guess the front office knows what it is doing but it don't make any sense to me why we picked him up again.

This is crazy does it keep happening every 2 weeks?

Even though I dont see him getting a carry, at least he won't be able to give New England or Dallas our run plays.

New England loves to take discarded players from someone's team and pump them for the info on the playbook then dump them the day after the game.

And I wouldn't put it past Jerry Jones to do the exact same thing.

With Wilie out, we need a 3rd string back "just in case"

That would be dookie.

ESPN today announced Parker as probable.

I understood the last time they signed him, but not now. Especially after zero production. Russel has shown me enough on special teams and as a back to be a sufficient back up.
