Steelers keep finding ways to win

PITTSBURGH — By no means was the Steelers’ latest win pretty.

They were out-gained on the ground and in the air.

They lost two fumbles.

They were denied on third and fourth down from the opponent’s 1-yard line in the fourth quarter.

Their quarterback was sacked five times.

But according to coach Mike Tomlin, Sunday’s 20-13 win over the Dallas Cowboys was a work of art.

“What a beautiful game and I mean that,” Tomlin said. “People get too preoccupied with style points. That was a beautiful game because we displayed mettle and we hung together.

“Are we far from perfect? Yes. But this is our football team. Those guys fought. Those guys believed in themselves. They didn’t blink in the face of adversity.”

Because the Steelers battled through adversity Sunday, they were able to rally for a late fourth-quarter win for the third time this year.

They won 26-21 in Jacksonville on Oct. 5 when Ben Roethlisberger threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Hines Ward with 1:53 left to play.

They beat San Diego

11-10 on Nov. 16 when Jeff Reed booted a 32-yard field goal with 11 seconds left to play.

On Sunday on a frigid day with an 8-degree wind chill factor, they won when Deshea Townsend returned an interception 25 yards for a TD with 1:40 left to play.

And remember, the Steelers needed overtime to beat Baltimore 23-20 on Sept. 29. In that game, running back Willie Parker didn’t play with a sprained knee, backup RB Rashard Mendenall suffered a season-ending broken shoulder and guard Kendall Simmons suffered a season-ending torn Achilles tendon.

So might these Steelers be a team of destiny?

“You know what, we persevered,” Roethlisberger said. “Our defense is the best in the world for a reason. They kept us in the game and gave us an opportunity to come back late and put some points on the board and eventually tie the game.

“That’s what this is all about. That’s what this team is all about. We’re the Pittsburgh Steelers. Offense, defense and special teams got it done.”

In other words, some how, some way, the Steelers (10-3) just keep finding ways to win.

I will take 10-3 anyway I can get it!

My heart, cats, dog, and girlfriend would not agree with Coach Tomlin that it was a beautiful game though, I know I scared the crap out of all of them numerous times with my yelling at the TV!

Great Win!
