Title says it all this guy hasn't played since week 5 in Jacksonville, why has he not been put on IR, the season is almost over and it doesn't look like he is going to play anytime soon.

Doesn't this guy eat up extra salary by being on the active roster?

Emergency back-up? They already have two guys playing for injured starters (Starks, Stapleton). Maybe they are keeping Smith active in case a couple guys go down in one game?

He's been good to us over the years, but this is a repeating pattern, and becoming a problem.

Time to cut him in my opinion.

Q: Why isn't Marvel Smith on injured reserve? There is no indication that he will play again this year.

Eric Seeger, Leola, Pa.

BOUCHETTE: It would surprise no one if they don't put him on injured reserve at any moment. They have not done it yet for a few reasons, one being they have felt he might be able to play at some point and the other being they really have no other offensive linemen to replace him. Backs are tricky, as many people know. They can always use a roster spot, so you have to assume he'll be able to return if they keep holding one for him.

Why cut him if he's a free agent in the offseason?

boy am I glad we have GMs

I have wondered this as well. I understand that they might need him if one of our OTs go down, but does anyone honestly feel he could contribute in a good way due to his back issue and not having played since week 5. Sorry but I don't think he could.

The Steelers will probably make a decision on Smith just prior to submitting their post-season roster to the NFL. :tt03::tt02::tt:
