View Full Version : Smizik retires

Not sure about the rest of you, but I grew up reading Smizik's columns for the Post-Gazette. He was always one of the more saner sportswriters in Pittsburgh, never getting too giddy or too depressing.

Hope he's got some fun stuff lined up for retirement.

I liked his columns back in the 70's and early 80's, but as he grew older, he became a little "over the top" with some of his stuff imho, and I started referring to him as the "mean little man". However, I wish him all the best in his retirement! :drink:

Maybe Bouchette was rubbing off on him. Now there's a grump. I had to stop reading his answers to fans they were so condescending.

Even though I respect his work, I hated his columns. Sorry. Not a big fan of his. He is very condescending when he writes you back.

His recent article about the Ryan Clark hit on Welker was one that made me do a double, then triple-take at him. It was easy to imagine the grandpa voice from the Simpsons while reading it, I'll say that. lol

Thanks for the years of writing, Bob, and best of luck in your retirement

Enjoy the retirement Smizik. It was great watching you in your appearances on the Subway Nightly Sports Call.

Smiz replied to my emails to him; and all though he was really nasty to me in one of them, I wish him well...

Get out on the links Smiz !
