I"m more worried about his long term health and his health past football. It's not good for someone his age to have this many concussions already. Sadly it's not about football anymore

Staubach lasted 11 seasons (after getting a late start as a 27-year-old rookie due to a 5-year stint in the Navy) and got 10-12 concussions during his career when QBs were a LOT less protected than they are now, and he still has his wits about him. Guys like Staubach, Bradshaw, Unitas and others getting the hell literally beat out of them back in the day are partially why QBs are so protected now.

It's football.

Not to sound insensitive, but I would have to believe that Ben Roethlisberger and any other guy who straps up would agree with those three words.

Ben's going to do what he does. When we get a better offensive line, he will take less of a beating. This is how he plays, though.

It's why we love him, but it's also why we are left with our stomachs in our throats so often.

Ben will play until he can't anymore. Whether it's 30 or 40; he's going to play like a champion.

EDIT: Or two words... depending how you look at it...

I tend to forget about Staubach...being it was so long ago. Do you remember the hit LC put on him in his last regular season game against us? I think LC talks about it in one of the America's Game episodes.

A concussion is a concussion, but I know what you mean. Guys were more apt to risk playing with them back then as well as not nearly as much was known about them as there is now. Sports medicine in those days was in the Stone Age compared to now.

Yeah, because Rodgers has actually outplayed Favre this season. It certainly isn't their offense.

I also can't see Ben playing past 30 unless the OL gets better and he takes less of a beating. Let's throw the motorcycle accident out of the way for now - look at all of the punishment he's taken ON the field in the past 3 years. It's tough for a QB to remain productive if he's getting his ass kicked every week. Just ask David Carr.

Does anybody know since the Steelers drafted Alan Faneca, other them Simmon , what offesnsive linemen the Steelers have drafted in the first three rounds? What round? Ben needs help and he needs it soon. I share your concern about Ben's health and longevity.

Trent Green tops the list of QB's that should be worried about their futures after football (hes had his noodle scrambled by some highlight reel hits). I think (hope) Ben will be around as long as he wants to play. This (and last) is a bad year considering the poor oline play. I wouldn't expect this 3 to 5 sacks per game to continue next year.

I really don't think anyone is taking anything away from how the defense has played. They keep the other team from scoring and they do it extremely well. That being said, it means nothing if we can't put a few points on the board ourselves. And Ben, more than once (how quickly we forget the games at the beginning of the season), has carried the offense on his very wide shoulders and made plays that other QB's would have given up on. Give the man some credit for never, ever giving up.

Single handedly? Now that's funny.... first, we are where we are in spite of Ben. The only way a case be made otherwise is that the defense has done so much that Ben hasn't. Look at this turnover/TD ratio. But continue to bury your head and give him credit when he doesn't deserve it.

Geez, stop being so sensitive... I think the point Tony was making...

Is that the Line has sucked this year, the rb's have not seemed to pull their weight, the receivers have dropped a number of balls.

Yet, in the end, when the offense needs to get a TD, Ben somehow seems to get the team down the field and into the endzone.

Why so negative. I don't want a 2nd coming. I want a QB that doesn't choke his meat in big games, that plays well, that does all he can to win, that has the arm to go deep, the skill to avoid a rush, the ability to scramble when needed and the head smarts to make good plays in critical situations.

I don't recall anyone saying "it's all Ben". Stop putting words in everyone's mouths. When it comes to the play of the offense, it's Ben that makes the big plays happen. It's Ben that never quits. I don't understand the play call, pass lateral from that spot.

Throw it deep, you may get a Pass Interference call and get another shot at a deep ball...those lateral plays...they are ridiculous to run, especially so deep in your own end.

There goes Favre...hate to see him go out this way, but at least his last pass wasn't an INT.

Yeah, I hate them

when was the last time the steelers even tried one of those? It's always try to win it by passing with ben in the end
