im getting hyped. ive wanted to go to the sunbowl for a while now (close proximity) and with pitt visiting i figured it was a chance of a lifetime.

this will be the 1st college game ive seen w/ 2 nationally recognized teams.

horrible experience with the ticketmaster representatives though. try spelling a 12 letter polish last name to a pakistani who doesnt know the difference between 15th and 16th street, and then pray you get your tickets.

i gotta pick mine up at the call window at a venue that dont print out tickets at the call window an hour before gametime.

:hope:

now i gotta deal with some schmoe who probably doesnt even know how to use a computer.

im prepared to raise some hell and looking forward to a good game. :danceshout:

Im really jelous of you getting to go to the game, my whole family is going but me!

I still got to go to one game this year though against Louisville not a great game but it is better than nothing and it helps that my bro goes to UofL and I got to rub it in his face when we won.

Enjoy the trip to El Paso.oh yeah, el paso is real nice. especially right arount the utep stadium. it is so close to the rio grande you can almost spit across the "river" into one of the poorest most downtrodden parts of juarez, which also happens to be one of the most delapodated, third world nation, looking parts of all of mexico. pretty much cardboard houses and tents.

funny thing is the sun bowl is built right into the mountain, and not even 30 feet away from the stadium is a mock mine shaft that the students used to work/practice mining in (hence the school name utep miners).

it was "used" as a food and water dropoff point for all the donkeys (drug smugglers) who trekked their loads across the river and into the states.

the art director (art dept and museum is right next door) told me they cleaned it up quite a bit since the 80's but even when we went in, there was still plenty of evidence of aliens and smugglers still using it.

Isn't the game played at UTEP's Football Stadium???

Isn't the game played at UTEP's Football Stadium???yeah, many just call it the "sun bowl" (cause thats what its known for) and its always sunny and like a bowl carved into the hillside.

its almost literally a stones throw away from a very sad and ugly part of mexico. i consider el paso to be fairly nasty. i usually only go there to use the airport.

The Worst Part of Mexico is near the US Border in My opinion anyway.

it is a kick ass setting, especially if you love the desert. (keep in mind these pictures would look gross on a windy or smoggy day).

my brother, who is the curator of the utep art museum, just called and said the "village people" (are they still alive?) will be playing the YMCA at halftime for the guiness book of world records for the largest ymca dance EVER!

0-3 ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZz

what an absolutely horrible football game. you'd like to say if you love defensive football this is what its all about, but it was more of just offensive ineptitude.

mccoy for pitt looked ok and #22 francis for the beavers had a few runs. both qb's pretty much sucked.

what is unfortunate is it seemed the best player on the entire field was #7 punter for osu (hekker?).

what is sad is the dude looked like a beast and he is a spitting image of napoleon dynamite!

he was booming perfect spiral punts into the wind, many of which couldnt be returned, were fair caught, or fell dead inside the 10 yd line.

awesome

a few highlights- it was the 75th anniversary of the sun bowl so i got a cool free hat.

they honored 75 past players who had good showings in the sun bowl. preist holmes was an honorary coin flipper or something, and they brought tony dorsett onto the field. the entire PITT side of the stadium erupted in applause and cheers. that was nice to see.

michael irvin was there as a spectator and walked through the crowd like a semi normal person.

i didnt have to walk too far for a smoke and could still see the jumbotron.

that was about it.

0- freaking 3 :dang:

oh... and i get to be a part of "history" with the freaking village people.

no i didnt dance... ive never done the ymca and dont know the macarena.

heres to hoping pitt basketball does better this year....

Pitt should be thankful the Rogers brothers didn't play. It would've been a much uglier game.

My question is was it really that windy there? Because the horribly annoying anouncers were blaming everything on the wind.

My question is was it really that windy there? Because the horribly annoying anouncers were blaming everything on the wind.no, not at all. i would call it a cool breeze. the announcers were probably just saying that because some army paratroopers were supposed to deliver the game ball but the jump was canceled because of the wind. i was suprised cause it didnt seem windy at all to me (of course the entire stadium is pretty much shielded by and built into the hills. it was announced the "winds" were about 10-15 mph.

fwiw, napoleon dynamite had 2 of his best and longest punts going into the "wind".

the problem was that neither qb could hit the broad side of a barn in even the most perfect conditions. there wasnt 1 pass completed in stride the entire day. it was like watching a high school championship game from a non-football state.

but the PITT band absolutely destroyed OSU (about half the size). osu's band pretty much sucked and almost seemed ashamed to be sharing the field with pitt.

and i hate to say it, or think this way, but i have to wonder if ANY black people even live in oregon. that had to be the whitest team, fanbase, band, cheerleading corps, i have ever seen (we sat on the visitors side).
