View Full Version : Ward not making Pro Bowl ? What Steelers will make it ?

Hines Ward's unprecedented Pro Bowl run as a Steelers wide receiver could end at four when the league reveals the AFC and NFC all-star squads this afternoon. So be it, Ward said yesterday.

"Not too good," Ward said of his chances. "I don't have a thousand yards. I had a great run as far as four straight years in a row -- that's unheard of. There's only a couple guys to do that since I've been here. I think Marvin [Harrison] and I were the only two guys."

Ward has 61 receptions for 830 yards and while he can still reach 1,000 yards for the fifth consecutive year, he's tied for 16th in the AFC in catches and 14th in yards.

Ward broke the old Steelers reception record of 85 when he caught 94 passes in 2001. He followed with seasons of 112 receptions, 95 and 80. He's the only receiver in Steelers history to make four Pro Bowls and he owns the Steelers record with 566 receptions. But the Steelers have thrown just 342 passes, fewer than any NFL team this season.

"I'm only as good as my opportunities," said Ward, whose 10 touchdown catches are two off his career high with two games left. "I may not get as many opportunities as other guys around the league but I think my teammates and coaching staff know what I bring to the table as far as my presence on the field and stuff like that."

The Steelers don't expect to have nearly as many players in the Pro Bowl as they did last year, when nine played in the game in Honolulu. It was their most since 10 made it after the 1979 season, their fourth Super Bowl win. They were 15-1 last season, 9-5 today.

Their strongest candidates are safety Troy Polamalu, defensive linemen Aaron Smith and Casey Hampton, guard Alan Faneca and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

"It goes like that some times," Ward said. "They're still Pro Bowl players in our eyes."

Ward will probably still make 1000 yards, or atleast very close to it and IMO he is still a Pro Bowl WR but his numbers arent as big this year so he may miss out..

Troy should definately make it, Casey, Faneca, and after that It's a crap shoot. Haggans has a shot at it too, IMO

that's pretty damn fagged out if they are going by his yards, last year he didn't reach a 1000 till the last game of the season. all these ****** bandwagon fans that vote need to be kicked in the nuts, i don't know how in the hell moss had more votes then ward. this pisses me the hell off and i don't even watch the damn pro bowl. and shame on the coaches cause they get a vote too.

The pro bowl is nothing more than a popularity contest any more.... if Ward doesnt make it, it will be a complete disgrace

Ward will probably, and eventually get on, after all the injuries and such. The AFC is a tough division with some tough WR playmakers. Does he deserve the trip to Hawaii, of course. But so does the other good ones!
I would like to see Farrior in again. I just don`t want Cowher coaching because we all know what that means

I think this is just based on fan voting... the players and coaches still have to vote don't they. He may get more respect from them, since they are not all about the numbers like fans are.

for those who missed the pro bowl last year, hines really shouldve been the mvp. he proved he can be a deep threat and showed great speed and moves on a ko or punt return for a td. hes up there in fan voting and with the coaches and players votes he may still make it in. we see players with average years get the free pass all the time. maybe this is hines year.
