Well, I never thought I'd make it this long to be able to post this, but as of today, January 7, 2009, I have been smoke-free for a full year after being a pack-and-a-half-a-day smoker for 22+ years (and as I'm about to turn 41, that's over half my life up to now). It really feels good to no longer be a slave to the nicotine. :drink:

Best of all, by a very rough estimate, and based on my former pack-and-a-half-a-day habit, I figure I've saved about $1,500 - $2,000 in the last year by not smoking as well.

I commend you Gary.....even though I have never been a smoker, I have enough family members who are. And have watched them struggle with this nasty addiction. You're strong, you'll be fine.

I've tried really hard to quit and was successful for a few weeks, but with all of the stressors in my life, it's almost impossible to give up my crutch right now. I am going to try again when my life calms down.

Thank you, Gary, for all of the encouragement and support you have and are continuing to give me to kick the coffin nails to the curb once and for all!

CONGRATS :applaudit:....What you should do is take your smoke money and save it up for a trip to the Burgh for a game next year. 2nd anniversary gift to yourself.

Smoking is EVIL. Had I known back then what I know now, I never would have picked one up. :banging: Funny thing is - that ciggy has the ability to calm me down when I'm stressed but there isn't one ingredient in them that has "calming" effects, as nicotine is a stimulant!

Congrats on quitting!! What did you use....patch...gum....drugs???

Thanks! I didn't use anything - I went cold turkey, completely. The first two months were absolute hell, but after that it wasn't so bad.

Congratulations. I've been there, and it's hard as hell to do; don't think I could've made it without the patch. You, sir, are made of sterner stuff than I.

CONGRATULATIONS!! I've been there too - I quit back in 2000. The only thing that ever worked for me was acupuncture. It was great because I didn't jones and more importantly - I wasn't b!tchy  I recommend it to anyone who's tried to quit - I was amazed. Plus it was so relaxing, I dozed off during treatment lol

Congrats bro!

To anyone who has quit I say bravo!

To those who are trying.. keep at it.

Nicotine is pound for pound the MOST ADDICTIVE DRUG KNOWN TO MAN!

Yet it is totally legal!

Gotta love our governments ability to keep the really harmful drugs outlawed! cough cough ......BS!

Awesome stuff, Gary.

Keep up the good work. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to kick the chew yet.

I have a good role model, though, when I'm ready.
