I was watching ESPN and he was on with Cris Carter and some other dude talking about the games. When they were showing the Steelers/Chargers highlights and they showed that 16 yard Parker TD in the 4th, Hoge started singing, "Here we go...here we go... Steelers, here we go, 'cause Pittsburgh's going to the Superbowl." Carter or the other dude joined in too. It was kind of funny, but I was like, "No, they still gotta beat the Ravens!"

Although we're not supposed to count chickens before they hatch, you have to appreciate the optimism embodied by one Merril Hoge. It's this "can-do" attitude that IMO will send us to the Big Dance.

Yeah, I jumped up and started singing when I heard them all start to singing. In context as well they were saying "A team needs to have a beat"

then they started humming the bass line, and started "Here we Go"....."Here We Go"...

it was great.

Thats the kind of attitude that made Hoge a hard nosed player wearing the black and gold.

Jan 7 1990 vs Denver

Hoge 16 rushes 120 yards
8 catches 60 yards
For those who remember he carried us to within a point of the AFC CHAMPIONSHIP

Absolutely, it makes me laugh how neither is able to hide their Steeler homerism (nor choose to).

ESPN always gets a bad rap on this site, but I love ESPN. I just understand that besides Hoge and Jaws none of the rest really know what their talking about. Hoge and Jaws are two superb analysts at breaking down film.

Hogie was one of my favorites of all time. Always knew if it was 3rd and 5, it was Hoge out of the backfield for 15-20!!

Merill is SUCH a homer. He was on with Ditka and they both kind of laughed and predicted the Steelers.

Ditka: "Well, I grew up in Pittsburgh and i can't go against the Steelers" something to that nature.

I love Hoge. He does a great job on ESPN and is almost always dead on with his information when talking about the games. And actually I think it was Trey Wingo who stared the song of "Here we go". It was great.

Haha it seems on the guys on ESPN perceive Hoge as the arrogant steelers lover .

Just like Bill Cowher on CBS. Everytime they start talking about the Steelers, I can see that little twinkle in his eye, the jaw protrude just a bit, and that awesome half-grin form. I bet he wishing deep down that he was still part of the team right now as much as STEELER NATION does.

I think it was on the History DVD but they showed highlights of that game and one of the Denver defenders was screaming "Hodge is kicking our ass!"

I got to know Merril well from dating one of his closest friends on the team back in the early '90's. He was the true definition of a "teamer" and in my eyes, he'll always be a Pittsburgh Steeler (s). One of the most genuinely nice people you'd ever want to meet! :drink:
